@OceanIsle
They give merits and scholarships (all which have been given out for Fall 2020, confirmed with my counselor on that).
Only financial at this point.

@fclspat
Hi! Hope you are well!
We deposited LSU! We had planned on seeing it during April vacation but now with everything going on, we will not be.
We have researched a lot and talked to people we know that have gone to both LSU or Univ of SC. Like you had mentioned in an earlier post and others have shared with us, a few of the tipping points for my D was preferring all the sports facilities to be on campus as LSU has. She is going for athletic training and having everything there for clinicals would be great. Also, she didn’t want so much of a city setting. LSU isn’t right in the city from what we understand…
We are keeping an eye on Univ of SC to see if they award any aid at all. I know merits and scholarships are been given out for fall 2020 but curious if anything else comes through.
Seems your daughter needs to def plan on a nice 1st job gift to her parents! ??
As long as she is happy…glad she has options!
I just had a live chat with admissions and I’m confused with what they are saying and what our local admission rep said.
Admissions department:
“ FASFA was due April 1 st and they began reviewing them so they should be releasing those packages in the next coming weeks. They are not posted on the portal but rather your student will be emailed about it since it’s through the FASFA and not admissions. Once you receive your financial aid, we have a cost calculator on our website that you can utilize to form a cost breakdown. Tuition gets set in July and depending on meal plan and housing you choose - you can figure out COA that way”.
I’m under the impression we figure out our own cost of attendance based on last years tuition cost? What?!!
@Lacole03 , yes, I’m aware of all of that. We are not expecting any merit but we still need to know if UofSC gives any institutional need-based aid beyond the $5500 federal loans. Six out of eight of my son’s other acceptances have offered additional (non-merit based) grants.
I’m anxious just to have him withdraw already. We need to move on with the process and hopefully they can give the spot to another student, but would prefer to have the final numbers. They said April 1st and that’s been our understanding for months now.

See my post above…
@OceanIsle
Gotcha.
We were told only federal aid was left to be determined. Nothing else at this point.
That was back early March from our admissions counselor.
Best of luck though.
I would call Syracuse and plead your case if you can try to get the deposit back if you choose to change to USC. Explain the reason (maybe financial or whatever it is) and maybe because of the situation they will be nice and give it back. It cant hurt to ask
I apologize if my response sounded snippy. That certainly was not my intent. I did see, and appreciate, you sharing what you were told; however, your quote said “FAFSA-driven” packages, and that definitely can mean need-based institutional aid on top of the $5500 loans.
They base the numbers on your FAFSA, but most of my son’s schools offered awards beyond the government Stafford loans and were FAFSA-driven (based on EFC).
I’m expecting little to nothing from UofSC but I’m still curious, at this point mostly bc I have a younger HS kid who may or may not consider applying.
Thanks and good luck to you too!
@Lacole03 for sure LSU is more self contained and less of a city feel vs SC. She (and your) are going to love LSU. It’s just lovely. My daughter admitted, just based on campus alone, LSU was her favorite of the dozen campuses we visited (I think I agree). SC was her second favorite campus but the program she wants to study was far stronger at SC (and Syracuse).
@jgwolf i May try calling Syracuse, but don’t expect it to work.
Looks like our portal updated and it shows Federal Stafford loans only. No email (so far) alerting a change. Good luck to everyone! We will decline the offer of admission and hopefully as others do, kids can get off the waitlist.
We did receive an email saying the enrollment date has been pushed back to June 1st instead of May 1st.
@fclspat I saw where other schools now are delaying the deposit (SC included) and some are even offering refunds on deposit. Its worth a try
Does anyone know where I go to decline admission? I don’t see anywhere to do it on the portals. Thanks!
I think on the page on the portal where it shows your acceptance There is a drop down and it says Cancel Application. You may want to try that
@joporuss , we used the drop down on the admissions portal. There was an option to cancel your application.
@jgwolf @OceanIsle Thank You for your help!!
DS received notification of a scholarship today. It’s not much but we were not expecting anything at all. It’s a total $20,000 over 4 years. DS is planning to attend a different college it’s just a matter of will colleges be open in the Fall.
Wow, we checked the portal and DS received an award as well. This was entirely unexpected bc he withdrew his app last week. Makes me wonder if USC has freed up some merit room with kids declining. It’s dated 4/8 but as far as I know, he did not receive an email notification.
@OceanIsle which portal did you check?
I got a parent email and DS got an email saying he was awarded a scholarship and to check the portal. I also went to the website and it says this is a new scholarship starting with Fall 2020. I don’t recall whether it was previously listed as a scholarship. The total price tag is still more than I’m willing to pay.
@animallover345 , it was on his regular admissions portal. Still no email but I think the award may have been sent prior to the admissions office realizing my son had withdrawn his app.
