So, I know Syracuse and Indiana University are also good for sports communication, what are some other great programs ?

For those interested, Clemson updated their net price calculator (NPC). The updates include merit awards based on grades, rank, and major.

Are you sure the update includes merit awards? If it does, then I guess I’m going to be disappointed. I did the calculator and there was no reference to any merit for my 4.0 (unweighted) 35 ACT kid. We’re out of state and won’t get need based aid, so we’re really hoping for some merit to bring the cost down. My son really loves Clemson, it’s where he wants to go, but (assuming he gets in) it will be hard to justify that much more expensive (if no merit) above other potential options.

I just ran it as well, with basically the same stats. No merit was shown (also OOS).

I guess I feel better that I’m not alone! Hopefully it just doesn’t include merit, and it’s not a reference to what might be possible for our kids.

I just ran it for my current senior, she does get $10,000 a year (oos), had a 33 act, 3.95 uwgpa, 10th out of 300 students, calculator said $0. I do know that $12,000 was the max her year, and it’s getting way more competitive. It definitely wasn’t her best offer.

Yeah, I’m nervous about the whole “southern schools are more popular” thing. I was hoping that S25s stats would gain him some merit aid - but if there’s more kids trying to get in then (a) more are likely to have high stats, making mine less “special” and (b) the need to offer good merit to out of state kids is reduced as it’s not as important to entice them to come.

Sigh, if only my kid liked his in-state option as much as he likes Clemson…

My daughter applied to 20 schools (COVID, no tours), it came down to in state or Clemson, once she visited Clemson in late April it was over (plus her twin brother was going to in state flagship, and he was a bit of a slacker). She could’ve attended other oos schools for about the same cost as Rutgers.

We are in-state and it shows over $9000, which we knew part of that amount, but not the stem supplement. Maybe not the same for OOS.

Oos students usually don’t get FA from public universities since they don’t pay in state taxes.

Stem supplement is only for IS Palmetto Fellows and starts sophomore year if eligibility requirements are met.

This is no longer true starting this admissions cycle.

For those considering Clemson and Greek life, this is a heartwarming story and says a lot about the kindness of Clemson students.

President Clement’s daughter is in Clemson life (and my daughter’s sorority).

My kid is interested in Marketing. Applied via common app in early October. 3.9 unweighted / 4.3 weighted, 3 APs, AP scholar, plenty of clubs and community service, part time job, 29 ACT, 1240 SAT. We are out of state. We’ve really loved Clemson so far but I’m honestly discouraged by what I’m reading about the cost and minimal merit scholarships. It’s hard to justify nearly $200k for an undergrad degree. Interested to see if she gets in when decisions come out in December.

We feel the same. We’re OOS and Clemson is tied for my daughter’s #1 spot. She applied as soon as applications opened for engineering. $40K a year in out of state tuition is step compared to other OOS public universities that are ranked significantly higher than Clemson and provided much better merit aid. We’ve decided to let the decision ride until we have a better picture of scholarships at each of the universities she’s applied to, but the general consensus certainly implies that Clemson will be stingy!

Hmm, my kids applied to many oos public’s, most were around $40,000 for tuition. Some gave more than Clemson (UCONN, UMASS, UDel) some gave less (Pitt, UMD), but Clemson isn’t known for their merit. Clemson’s acceptance rate is lower than those.
