Cornell Waitlist Class of 2028

Yup

Has anyone heard from Cornell regarding getting off the waitlist? I am wondering when we will hear. Last year some folks heard around this date according to the old 2027 thread

Last year, most of the waitlist movement was in May and June. With financial aid delays this year, it would be expected that it would be later rather than sooner.

Sad, but likely true. I thought March was the longest month of this process. I was wrong. :expressionless:

Since Cornell uses CSS I hope that would not be the case. At the Duke admitted student day event they said they used CSS profiles to make decisions for financial aid since FAFSA was so late.

Yes, using the CSS means Cornell has all the financial info they need. The issue is that students who have been accepted to Cornell AND a high ranking school that doesn’t use CSS might be taking longer to make their decision.

do you think that with the high number of regular decision admits this year, that the waitlist will move as much as last year?

I personally believe they’re going to lower their enrollment need. They admitted more RD and less ED, and I ran the numbers I think they want a smaller freshman class than last year, overall I think it comes down to whether or not they hit that number. I don’t think there will be waitlist movement

Yeah, a lot of the waitlist movement was around May and June. Tbh, I’m honestly just praying for a TO offer since I applied to CALS. I’ll take that as a win honestly.

hopefully the waitlist to accepted number is still in the hundreds, from personal observation this year ppl who are accepted to Cornell have a lower yield

Yeah, I think there is still gonna be a lower yield. Another kid on reddit was talking about how Cornell is betting on a lower yield or something.

Has anyone received any information or notification from Cornell stating that they are going to begin releasing waitlist decisions soon? I didn’t receive anything yet but I was just hoping that they let us know soon.

I know that last year some students began receiving emails on the 21st, but I am not sure if they are going to send them out that early this year.

Oh okay. Could FAFSA delay affect it? I think someone mentioned this above.

Best of luck to us:pray::pray::sob:
Hopefully hearing on 5/2

Yup! Hopefully we all hear back as soon as possible. Any other data from previous years that we can potentially look at to predict this years waitlist movement?

No. The FAFSA delay has thrown a new wrench into things. I’ve accepted that the earliest we’ll hear anything is May 2. If Cornell opens up spots earlier, it will be a nice surprise. Thankfully my kid’s safeties have just extended their deposit deadlines to May 15. Hoping  we only have to make one deposit to Cornell before then.

I’m not sure which top schools schools use fafsa this year, I thought they all are using css?

None of the UCs use CSS. Nor do some other state universities like Maryland and Georgia.

Well Berkeley and LA are both may 1st deadlines so I don’t think that’ll push anything.
