Here is a place for folks to discuss this show, should there be some other viewers on College Confidential.

Did you watch the first episode tonight? I am not a big fan of this series, but I thought I’d see if I could get into the new season. I was shocked at what happened to David Cassidy. I guess it’s all about drama and ratings, but wow…Harsh! I think that Cassidy was first mistreated by Hatch, but then it got even worse for him when he entered the boardroom.

Can people really get away with that kind of disrespect, particularly since it relates to a physical attribute (in this case, small stature)? I know The Trumpvirate was trying to tie in weak personality traits, but all of this was very much directly related to Cassidy’s size.

I thought it was sad as well. I wasn’t shocked Richard stayed on since he appears to be one of the most ruthless people in the group. The next one will be interesting seeing how the group treats him and if he returns to the boardroom.

Sure, a matter of the bigger “bully” picking on the little guy. I’ve been watching the series for a while now. My daughter is home for Spring break and we watched it together. I DO think that there are some good “life lessons” to be learned from the show with regard to leadership, teamwork, creativity, problem solving, etc. The thing I dislike most about the show is that it really is getting to be more and more RIGGED as the seasons progress. Last night was a good example: ALL of Backbone’s team said Richard Hatch should be fired and yet the Donald found a way to fire David Cassidy instead, even though what Hatch did was grounds for instant dismissal in the real workplace. Not to mention, he was the project manager and they got their asses kicked by the ladies. If David Cassidy had been the project manager, instead of Hatch, Trump would have played the card I just described, physical contact is a no-no, your team mates all want you to be fired, and you were the PM and lost badly. I guess Hatch makes for better reality TV…

I just saw the clips of the boardroom and the incident where Hatch seemed to use a folder in his hand and his hand to push Cassidy aside. Dismissive for sure, but didn’t seem so bad.

I think Cassidy got booted because he couldn’t stick up for himself. He seemed really tongue tied–canseco and the girl stuck up for him.

I still think Hatch should have been fired if, for nothing else, bringing Canseco back into the board room. Initially when asked by Trump, Hatch said Canseco was the “star” of their team, but then he brings him back into the boardroom after finding out Canseco didn’t like or respect him.

Isn’t it an “expected” part of the show to keep an obnoxious “villain” around, as well as a few two-faced manipulators who masquerade as good guys? It works very well when the so-called villain is really the best player as in Piers Morganl not so well with a obnoxious character such as that Duke poker diva. It also works well when two-faced liars a la Trace Adkins and that Baldwin idiot brother can hide their game all the way to the end.

I can’t stand Richard Hatch. Sadly, David Cassidy was a victim of bullying and he just wouldn’t/couldn’t throw a big enough fit to get Hatch tossed. In terms of strong personalities, Cassidy was being eaten alive. Unfortunately, obnoxious, narcissistic people make for better TV than nice, more-subdued people. I can’t wait till Gary Busey is the project leader … he’s a nut job, for sure, but should provide plenty of entertainment. I can’t stand John Rich. I love Meatloaf (both the musician and the food). I liked the way Jose Canseco spoke up and told it like it was. I don’t have an opinion on Lil Jon or Mark McGrath just yet. As for the women, I don’t really have a favorite, but I believe Dionne and NeNe are in over their heads. I’m not ashamed to say that DH and I love reality TV.

I noticed Donald got the women going just like he did in the last Celebrity Apprentice. Before they even knew who had won or lost, they were throwing each other under the bus for him. This group of women are going to tear each other apart once they start losing.

I predict Richard Hatch will be sent over to the women’s side if he “survives” a few more weeks. I don’t know why anyone would appear on this show if they did not have several New York City friends willing to come down and donate lots of money for charity.

And in the business world, the Hatches of the world will be kept on (and PROMOTED) if they produce good results–until they either step too far over the line and become an embarrassment or quit producing good results.

^^so true and if Cassidy could have articulated a decent reason why he should stay he might still be there. Hatch was banking on the fact that Cassidy wouldn’t articulate good reasons. As far as Canseco what is the expression “keep your enemies close.” It was a smart play by Hatch to bring Canseco and Cassidy back. It’s also “good TV.”

I found Hatch so obnoxious that I turned it off but am not surprised that Donald kept him. This is the jump-the-shark season. Too many outsized personalities make the show look desperate.

“And in the business world, the Hatches of the world will be kept on (and PROMOTED) if they produce good results–until they either step too far over the line and become an embarrassment or quit producing good results.”

ellemenope, I question whether businesses will keep verbally or physically abusive employees, no matter how well they perform. I believe most have a zero tolerance for line-crossing, if it involves any kind of rude physical contact. Businesses are more worried about lawsuits than emabarrassments, and cannot afford to have the other contributing team members in an uproar-- it’s counter-productive.

I would really like to see The Apprentice revert back to the “original format” of season 1 (when Bill Rancik won), or even last season’s format which consisted of the unemployed cast of people. Granted these “non-celebrity” shows don’t raise as much money for charity, but they represent a more evenly contested competition rather than something that more closely resembles a pro-wrestling match. It’s fairly obvious that Trump has a weekly favorite picked out from each losing team.

I have never enjoyed the celebrity series on any of the reality shows. This season especially since everyone has a much higher opinion of themselves than they should. No one can have a bigger ego though than Donald. Unfortunately I think Hatch will be around for a while because of ratings (I hope not but…) and it makes Donald look good in the eyes of sponsors. I would be afraid to be in the same room as Gary Busey let alone disagree with him. I would like to see Gary and Hatch having to argue to stay on the show, that could be an hour episode all by itself.

So tonight is the Celebrity Apprentice. Anyone know if Richard Hatch will be on the show this evening or did he finally go back to jail… again? I’m sorry, was I supposed to have a more sympathetic tone to my voice?

I think he is due to report to jail tomorrow, but I think the shows have already been filmed. I heard he owes 2 million dollars on his 1 million dollar Survivor winnings, yikes!

I agree. I wonder if Lisa had allowed them to have their names credited on the book would the result have been different. Or she would have been screwed either way. Bridezilla Star is showing her claws. I was very annoyed that Lisa did not defend herself. She seemed to have a lot of spitfire during the tasks, but she crumbled in the boardroom. Star and Dionne were rather nasty. Should be interesting to see how things will be going forward, especially as NeNe thought Dionne should be fired.
