Downton Abbey

I thought it was interesting that Baxter helped Cora dress while Robert slept right there in the bed.

@coralbrook thanks for the laugh about moseley - he’d be running doing a jig - remember that time when he got a little tipsy? hilarious

By the way, when was it decided that they were going to get rid of Thomas? With his going on interviews, Carson told Robert that the situation may soon be resolved. I don’t recall it ever having been discussed.

As I looked at the wedding feast groaning with huge pies and other dishes, I wondered how did Mrs. Patmore and Daisy have time to make all that!

And yes, Branson did step on the bride and groom’s moment a bit. But if he arrived at the house, found that everyone was at the wedding and didn’t go, it would have been an unforgivable snub.

I was also not happy with the way the wedding was upstaged. It seemed kind of rude and somewhat strange, considering how proper everyone is supposed to be.

I said months who I thought Tom and Mary would end up together. Let’s see if I’m wrong.

Mr. Fang said the same thing: Mary and Tom. Months ago, I didn’t think so, but now I think you are right, conmama. Also Thomas is going to end up with Andy.

Yeah, I can’t figure out at all the Mr. Barrow storyline, why it’s such a big deal. I guess the trip to the other estate for th job interview was just another illustration of how the times were changing then so they used Barrow’s situation to do so.

I agree about Barrow’s job hunt, but I think they are trying to show a contrast with Downton Abbey. When he sat down for the interview, I could only think of “Hoarders”.

We really enjoyed last night’s episode. Husband laughed out loud at the Dowager’s lines.

Anyone else listening to the Masterpiece podcasts? I’m getting them through iTunes, but I’m sure you can get them another way. I am loving them and now whining a little each week as I wonder why we haven’t had them since the very beginning!

Time for more predictions and observations!

Mary bats Tom over the head because he wants the agent position back and she’s already got it.

The Cora coat lands in the “Bag a Week” pile because Mrs. Carson nee Hughes really won’t ever use it again.

Edith blows the cute, capable guy off because that is what she always does. until season’s end when they need to tidy up some overblown story lines.

The Drewes stay at the farm (after all they’ve got prize pigs) and unless Edith convinces Mary otherwise and spills her guts (like that means anything to Mary so that’s a no-go) then there is simply no reason for them to move when it is easier and makes more sense for Edith to move to London. Mr Mason dies of old age (well, he looks old to me anyway).

Barrows–I think he really liked the old guy at the interview. He finally finds a purpose in life and it’s taking care of someone else. And it didn’t appear that there were any clocks to even wind. Or furniture to dust. Or tables to set.
And he’d finally be his own boss and could play like he actually was a war hero. Win-win for him.

Denker and Sprout–who cares? She needs to go already and Sprout’s nephew can live in the potting shed forever–maybe someone will make some drapes for him…The cop must have a contract that guarantees x number of episodes. BUT-- prediction time–Denker uses the stamp to mail some letter and it turns out worth a fortune–Sprout has her arrested for stealing. But I still don’t care.

Hospital stuff–could they create a more boring conflict?-- Predictions, Insurance companies move in, PPO’s, national health care comes about, nobody gets taken care of and everybody dies as a result or at least languishes with less than optimal results. End of season and series. See? It was important after all. LOL!

And MOST of all…
Violet tells Isobel–“I told you so.”
Isobel says “What?” “That healthcare is important?” “That the greater good is more important than the individual?” “I’ve done all those things!” “I’ve spent my life doing that!”
Violet–“No, you should have married for love and enjoyed that extra drink that I teased you about.”

All I can say is…

Bwaa-ha-ha-ha-ha! B-)

I had that thought too. But I thought Mary would move to New York or Boston to settle with Tom instead.

I don’t know if that’s going to happen. They’re sister and brother-in-law, after all. That might be kind of creepy.

But I do find it curious that Mary hasn’t had any of those old romantic interests stirring the pot this season.

Gouf, you’re funny! LOL.

I listened to the podcasts. I really liked them. Thank you for the info.

@gouf78

You missed the prediction of working woman Edith hooking up with working man Tom.

What about the whole daisy and Mr. Mason and the farm issue?
i kept wanting her to stop talking to people about it. I’m nervous on where that’s heading.

Enjoyed the episode.

Still, the Drewes story line was just off. Mrs. D would normally have had all her other kids with her. She wouldn’t have had the opportunity to drive off with Marigold. Far fetched

Wanted more of the wedding. Tom’s arrival changed the focus.

Tom & Mary? No way. She’s too much a snob. I don’t think she’ll be happy sharing her role with him.

Indigestion leading to a hospitalization, and needing a specialist, but I don’t think he’ll be killed off.

It’s the Barrows needing a new job that I just don’t get.

If Tom and Mary end up as couple it will be hard to say which is the more improbable outcome: 1. Tom having completely sold out his former Irish freedom fighter/borderline terrorist working class ideals, or 2. Mary, ever the aristocrat to the core, having stooped so low as to marry her former chauffeur, and an Irish Catholic guy to boot.

With Sybil, marrying Tom was plausible because she was the rebellious and impetuous Socialist. Mary is none of those things.
