They dealt with that early in the scene by Mrs. Drewes mentioning that her sister had the children; Mr. Drewes thought she should have a day off.
VH, that is my point. Too much coincidence to be believable.
Mrs Drewe is going over the edge and her dim husband thought it was a good idea to let her go to the fair knowing full well the Granthams would be there? If
he had a clue she was losing her mind he might have her hang w her sister
Lots of foreshadowing:
– As has been said, Robert’s indigestion indicates major heart attack ahead. I just hope he survives.
– Edith’s new, charming love interest MAJORLY signals that the other dude is coming back. And just when the magazine is doing better than ever!
– There’s no way in hell the Drewes are moving.
– And Anna’s pregnancy is a sure sign Mr. Bates will be hanged. For god’s sake, it’s about time!!!
C’mon @Consolation, no spoilers!! Your evil laughter has connotations, you know!! You people who have watched the whole season should start your own thread!
I’m going to disagree with those predicting a heart attack for Robert. Do you remember that he had an ulcer at the end of Season 5? I’m thinking the pressures of running the estate while watching the neighboring estates fall apart or be sold is getting to him and flaring the ulcer. Just guessing and playing devil’s advocate…
I watched Galavant last week and now every time I see Daisy (Sophie McShera) in Downton Abbey I think of handmaiden Gwynne in Galavant.
edith referred to the new guy as “an agent” or “her agent” or something similar. Is he the agent that represented gregson? i was confused at that . . .
he was agent (like Branson) with tenant farmers at another estate
@Uvuo you mentioned a previous ulcer for lord grantham
And someone mentioned he will need medical care which beyond the local clinic
I like that plot line - maybe the illness doesn’t forshadow death - but the hospital story line !
@gouf loved your post well done
Still too sad about Sir Michael and his house (where Tom interviewed) to post anything.
That whole interview situation was sad, for Sir Michael and for Thomas, who had much higher expectations. I think this - M/M Carson decide that now that they are married, they’d like to devote their golden years to each other, and retire. Thomas then becomes head butler. And I was on the Mary/Branson team way back, so I stand by that. A new era, a new leadership, upstairs and down.
Thomas as head butler? No way. There’d be mutiny downstairs.
Mr. Carson would spring right back out of retirement if he thought Thomas would take over as head butler!
Naw, Sir Michael needs a surrogate son and Barrows needs a father figure. And all Thomas has to do is keep the old man company and tidy up a bit to make the two of them more comfortable. Better gig with better company. He’ll figure out that it’s a lot LESS work than he is presently doing.
Mary wants to be as independent as Edith is becoming. I think Branson heads back to the states at some point to leave Mary in total charge of the estate. Either that or she bats him over the head as I previously posted. Not a satisfying end but at least it ends–unlike the interminable Bates, Anna, Greene thing.
Daisy…is going to become some sort of societal rabble rouser much to everyone’s dismay. Actually she already is.
With some sort of degree though she’ll be able to get some backing or a job doing it. Molsely hides under the nearest table. Then he’s offered a teaching job. All is well.
Daisy is becoming Miss Bunting 2.0, unfortunately.
I have a feeling that all the focus on Barrow this season makes it almost certain that he will take over from Carson and remain with the Crawleys. I really hope that there are some happy endings, particularly for Edith and for Bates and Anna.
On a completely different, and superficial, note, does anyone know why they changed the hair color for Mrs. Hughes?
Thank you to all of you who know how it ends for not spoiling our fun !
Maybe Barrow dies somehow. And of course, Mr. Bates will be accused of murder…again.
Thanks for the podcast recommendation. So interesting! Was shocked to hear Michelle Dockery’s decidedly non-posh accent. Sounded almost Cockney to my untrained ear. Nothing like Lady Mary’s accent!!
My favorite scene was Violet raising her cane, saying “…en garde…”
