The wait to hear the early action results is getting so old! @cbl1 I’m interested to hear your thoughts on my chances:
1310 SAT (710 English/600 Math)
3.96 GPA Weighted (about 3.77 uw - my school doesn’t provide this)
90/622 rank (top 14%)
5 APs, 9 honors classes
NoVA white female, no legacy
Applied EA to CNRE - Exploring Natural Resources
Multiple extracurriculars relating to intended major including some leadership positions
I think you have very good chance. I have met the dean CNRE multiple times - great people in that program. Actually #1 rated in the country not many people know.
Has anyone out here applied to Architecture? VT is the last school my DD is waiting to hear from…the wait is tough! I know VT is very highly ranked…thoughts on her chances?
3.9 UW GPA
1290 SAT
Top 5 or 6% of class
7 AP’s: Calc AB & BC, Chem, Physics, English, APUSH, Euro History
2 IB’s: Spanish 5 and 6
IS/Legacy
Excellent EC’s with some leadership incl VT Arch + Design Summer Program and professional shadowing at an architecture firm
A little low on sat but being that high in class gpa and rigor should be in line. I think as long as good essays and no kind of red flags she should make it.
@marketingmom Your guest account isn’t going to give you any real-time announcement of results. They will be posted to your student’s portal account when they are released. Admissions will post on social media when results are released.
Pulling up her link it seems to go to the same guest account application portal as my link. Hard to tell not having an active guest account to try (my daughter won’t give me her password so I can’t snoop)
I’m a transfer student applied for this fall 2020, I got an email two days ago stating that the admission decision will be available For pickup on Feb 17th at my college (virginia western), wanted to let you guys know! No updates in my portal
Going solely on my son’s ED acceptance and his stats, they didn’t place nearly the importance on SAT scores as I thought they would. If I remember correctly, his SAT scores were just below the 25th %ile for his major. His GPA was between the 50th and 75th %ile. He spent a lot of time on his essays and I thought 3 of his 4 essays were very good and the 4th was average. He was sweating it because of his SAT score but I think his essays and ECs (two state championships in competitions related to his intended major and a good showing at the national competition plus some unusual volunteer work for a teenager) tipped the scales in his favor. He is not a legacy or a first generation college student so those didn’t factor into the admission decision. All of this to say that lower SATs don’t ruin the chance for being admitted. I hope y’all get good news soon.
I would love to see a great example of one of those essays . I thought that for a somewhat generalized question with several parts to answer in a “creative” way was pretty tough. My sons were ok and he used every single word and answered most parts of all 4 but still didn’t feel like a good place to show your writing chops
@jgwolf I totally agree with you regarding the new ‘essays’. They are so short, a student’s writing ability or creativity really doesn’t come through. The answers must be fairly superficial, which tells me that admissions is just checking boxes as to certain types of experiences. Also, some of the prompts are poorly written, which drove me nuts, so I hope admissions will improve them in coming admissions cycles. Before last year, the essays were more normal compared to what you find with other college apps.
