I recently updated firefox and am regretting it. I don’t like the change in how it lists sites when I start typing them in but mostly I am having problems with it freezing on me and I have to ctrl/alt/delete to go to task manager and close the whole firefox process down to get out of it. Any one else having this problem?

I am back using IE for the 1st time in years and don’t seem to have the same problem.

I’ve run into similar problems with Firefox. It runs fine initially, but after a while, it freezes up, or the screen graphics get all messed up. I usually end up having to restart my computer to straighten it out. I have a Mac so, as an alternative, I use either “Camino” or “Safari” as my browsers.

I have used firefox for years but only very recently had problems (since I upgraded). Wish I could go back to the non upgraded version. Still got my bookmarks but adding new ones or organizing them seems harder than before. Curious as to how widespread the problem is.

swimcatmom, click on Tools towards the top of your Firefox browser window. Click on Options, then click on Privacy. Under History, uncheck the box “Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar.” Then click OK. I think that’s what I did to disable the auto-complete feature. I haven’t had problems with bookmarks or with graphics freezing up. I do have Ad-Blocker installed so maybe that prevents some of the problems with freezing up.

Editing to add, I think I also may have had to set my history to save for 0 days, but am not sure about that.

No problems with Firefox, although there is one safety feature that you can download that messes up my Firefox. I’ve tried twice to use it and have had to delete it twice. ucsducladad knows which add on it is. Maybe you have this add on also and should get rid of it.

The older version never crashed or froze on me, while 3.0 does it about once a week. Hopefully they’ll have some patches out soon for whatever the problems are.

The feature that you’re talking about is called the Awesome Bar. It’s quite a popular feature but it takes a while to get used to. Directions for turning it off are at [Don’t think the Firefox 3 “awesome bar” is awesome? Here’s how to disable it. - Download Squad/url

To downgrade, you’d have to deinstall Firefox 3.0 and then install Firefox 2.0.0.16. After this you can run Firefox 2.0. If you experience problems, they are most likely due to using a 3.0 Profile on Firefox 2.0. I’ve gone back and forth between versions before (I usually have a few versions of Firefox on my systems) and sometimes there are minor GUI issues. If you need to do profile maintenance, there are directions at

BCEagle - thank you so much for the link. I have disabled the Awesome bar and am much happier now . I found it very irritating having a bunch of my bookmarks listed when I typed in letters - of course I have a zillion bookmarks many of which I use rarely but I like to keep the info there - just don’t want it listed all the time. I can go to bookmarks when i need them!

I have tried disabling some of my add-ons to see if that helps my freezing problem. To soon to say yet but i will let you all know. If it does not solve the problem I may try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. A couple of the add-ons were rather irritating ones that were part of my virus program (like showing the owner of sites every time I went there) so I am happy to have them disabled - didn’t know I could do that.

I love CC (except the bitter political threads). I had been searching for help on this and had not found any. Should have come to CC first but I have been trying to avoid it until after the November!

The new firefox refuses to add attachments to my email. An suggestions? I have gone back to IE as well. Loved firefox before. My banking program HSBC won’t work at all on the new firefox.
