Firefox issues anyone?

Sometimes freezing problems can be cleared up by flushing the cache too as there can be object fragments that cause unpredictable results.

“The new firefox refuses to add attachments to my email. An suggestions?”

What email site are you using? I send emails using Gmail and Yahoo Mail with attachments with no ptoblems.

“My banking program HSBC won’t work at all on the new firefox.”

There are websites that don’t recognize the new Firefox 3.0 as a valid version so they don’t provide service. In general, you can ask them to add it to their list of supported browsers. One way to get around the issue is to change the identification string of the browser to make Firefox 3.0 appear as Firefox 2.0 or Internet Explorer so that you are allowed in. But I would contact your bank’s tech support number or email address first.

In general, the mozillazine.org forums are the best place for firefox support questions.

Google Chrome sounded like everything I liked in firefox plus the ability to close single tabs when the browser freezes. Unfortunately it had a major bug: it allowed me to scroll down, but not up…

Yup, me too, since the last update. GRR

I haven’t had any problems w/ the new Firefox (I’m on a Mac), but one thing I really don’t like is the inability to “Clear all History” as I could before. It seems like I have to clear one item at a time. There must be a way to clear the entire history??

Blinker-- you can set your Firefox preferences to keep history for however long you want (Preferences>Privacy>History>“Keep my history for at least ___ days.” You can set it for 0, to clear all history. That way, when you log out, your history is gone.

Check out lifehacker. It has all kinds of tweaks for Firefox 3. Also, check out Mozilla Firefox’s home page. It explains stuff and helps to tweak the system too. I, too, am having no problems with it, because I have gotten it to where I like it, but it was not that way at first. Also, there are some sites that won’t recognize it, so I, too, use Safari as a back up.

franglish – thanks so much! Honestly, CC is the very best way to get any info you need FAST!

You can use Tools->Clear Private Data to clear private information. Just make sure that Tools->Options->Privacy “Ask me before clearing private data” is checked so that it confirms before clearing. When you want to clear your history, deselect the items that you don’t want and hit the clear button.

BCEagle,

A quick computer question. I have two hard drives C and D. C is almost full, whereas D is almost empty. How do I move programs and files from C to D?

Thanks in advance,

Most programs are installed to c:\Program Files. Those that aren’t can just be copied to another disk. Shortcuts on the desktop and from the start menu will have to be changed manually.

Programs installed to c:\program files will have to be deinstalled and reinstalled on the other disk. This is typically a real pain in the neck as you have to find the original installation media for the programs to move.

Files that aren’t connected to programs can be moved over by dragging folders from one disk to another.

If you have two drive letters but only one physical drive. If you have that environment, then you may be able to make C bigger by taking space from D.

Something that I’ve done in the past when the C drive is getting tight is to simply replace it with a larger drive. Drives keep getting bigger and faster and there’s plenty of competition in the marketplace that keeps prices down.

I’m having two problems with Firefox:

sorry. Can’t open links within messages and crashing on Yahoo.

I haven’t had any issues with Google Chrome. I also think it’s a lot faster than Firefox.

update - well Firefox has not frozen on me since I disabled add-ons. It’s only been a day but it had been freezing several times daily so fingers crossed.

Oddly since yesterday my hotmail account name and password are not being ‘remembered’ even with the remember me box checked - minor annoyance having to type them in. Wow - Typing that statement makes me realize how lazy computers are making me!

Another oddity - on Firefox I have difficulty opening large PDF files - it will get part way through then just stop. I don’t have the same problem on IE. As I don’t have the problem when using IE I am guessing it is some interface problem between firefox and adobe rather than my computer. Maybe I do need to do a complete firefox uninstall and reinstall. I am worried about losing my zillions of bookmarks though. edit:imported my firefox bookmarks to IE to be safe

Yes another update. I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it. Didn’t lose my bookmarks - yay. Still having problems downloading large pdf files. Upgraded adobe. Tried downloading a big pdf file that always freezes on firefox. Got a little bit further but then froze. :frowning: Googled around a bit and came across some recommendations for a pdf reader called foxit. Uninstalled adobe (figure out I can always re install later if need be). Downloaded foxit. Tried to open one of the big pdf files that always froze on me before - it worked perfectly :D

My problems *seem * to be solved - for now anyway. I will give it a few days.

Only problems I have with Firefox are when downloading a pdf. Usually freezes and have to close the app. I know this happens so try to avoid opening pdfs on firefox.

The HS uses ConnectEdu.net to request transcripts, letters of req, etc. It is required to make those requests via that sight, but it does not work at all on Firefox, so I just open Safari when needing access to that sight.

The Mom - try loading foxit - it solved my firefox pdf freezing problem.

When I 1st loaded it firefox was still going to adobe for pdfs and I could not figure out how to change it. so i completely unloaded adobe reader and now firefox uses foxit automatically and I am not freezing anymore.

I had big problems downloading pdfs when I upgraded Adobe to 9, with Firefox 3.0.1. So, I uninstalled Adobe 9 and reinstalled Adobe 8 and problems disappeared. Foxit sounded interesting, but it seems to be for Windows, not Mac. Shucks…

Franglish - interesting. I was using Adobe 8 and was freezing. Upgraded to Adobe 9 and still had the problem. (Both only on firefox not on IE - but I prefer firefox).

Wish I understood enough about computers to know why it is a problem for one person and not for another. edit: Oh I just noticed you are Mac so maybe that makes a difference? Mine is a Windows with XP. Foxit does seem good - of course I only downloaded it today.

I am a Mac! I do think that makes a difference. Thanks, though.

Does Google Chrome have problems with pdf downloading?
