This is something I’ve been wondering about for awhile, and I don’t know where else to ask it.
When I’m reading a thread, all of a sudden my screen will randomly jump back about 30 posts or so, on its own. Like, the screen will just backwards itself all of a sudden, and I’m stuck reading a bunch of posts I already read.
I don’t know why this happens, but it happens to me, too, and yes, it is annoying. But instead of having to reread all the posts, there should be a little blue button on the right that says “Back” that you can select (shown below), and then it should take you back to where you were reading, or at least much closer.
I have always had this behavior when I browse CC on my phone. It doesn’t happen on my laptop.
One workaround: Read until it does the annoying jump, then exit the thread and enter the thread again. It usually comes back to the last post read (or close enough that it’s an easy scroll).
Another workaround: Check CC a million times a day so that all threads you are reading are mostly up to date and you only have to read a few posts at a time. Then it has no chance to do the jumpy thing.
I don’t know how to take a screen recording, but on my phone, it happens pretty reliably after a few minutes of scrolling if I read a long thread with lots of unread posts. Try finding an old thread with hundreds or thousands of posts that you haven’t read yet?
I am using Chrome on an iPhone 16, iOS 18.6.2 if that makes any difference.
Nothing before or after. It’s possible you might just not have spent long enough. It usually doesn’t do it until I am thoroughly engrossed in the old thread, and then it jumps and drives me bananas.
I am not having this issue on my laptop – and I almost never check on my phone.
BUT, if you look on the right side of the screen, where it lists how long ago the most recent post was – like 38m or something – click on that, and it will take you back to the most recent post.
Maybe everyone already knows that, but I was very excited to discover it.
I was reading the Tulane ED thread on a desktop computer using Chrome and experienced a little jump (from around 160 to 149). But that was the first jump I’ve had in the last 36 hours or so.
There was a lot of hopping around on this site today. On longer threads, this seems to happen. I’ll be reading and all of a sudden the page jumps back 20 or more posts (that I’ve already read). Very annoying.
I was reading a longer thread today…catching up on posts from the summer. I got to read almost everything at least twice…because the site kept bouncing me back to previous weeks posts. This happened numerous times.
I finally decided to start at the end…and read up. But really, that’s not the best way to understand a thread.
Interestingly this just happened to me with this thread. I’d previously read all the posts until thumper’s new post today, but I was directed to the first post and all posts have the blue dot indicating “unread”. Nope. They have been read. So I should have been directed to today’s post #19, not to post #1.
(I tried to get a screenshot but the blue dots go away pretty quickly when a post is on screen.)
