@Lindagaf I actually just yesterday figured out how that works. If you mouse over a page number you are not on, a grey box appears on it. If no box appears, that’s the page you are on. For example, we’re currently on page 19. Hover over 19 and it doesn’t change. But hover over 18, 17, etc. and a grey box appears around it.
@doschicos thank you. That’s the information I was looking for, although “discussion topics” is not on my left side but rather waaaaaay down the bottom. In fact, I will admit that I didn’t even scroll that far because my page view ends with a ton a white space and then below that white space is the “discussion topics” link you reference.
A grey box appears over any number page I touch. That doesn’t help because I don’t know what page I’m currently on. If I go back to page whatever, then leave for a few minutes and come back, I have no way of knowing what page I’m on right now. In fact, that’s what I just did. I think I’m on page 8 or so, but if I now want to go to three pages ahead, it’s not possible.
Up until a day or two ago, the page you’re currently on was bolder.
I should have specified that for me, on my laptop, it works that way but I know if one accesses via other devices like a phone, it will look different.
And apologies for my spelling/grammatical errors on that post. I had just woken up and not at my best. ![]()
@Lindagaf so if you mouse over page 20 under the last post, a grey box appears around it? If so, that’s different from what happens to me. The only gray boxes to appear are on 1, 14, 15, 16, etc… but not 20 so I know I’m on page 20.
Yes, I have a grey box appear on any number I go to.
^ Probably a different browser/OS combo.
I’m on a phone. There is no mouse. I’d like to know the page I’m on just by looking.
And when I open a thread the title still takes up most of my phone screen. It makes it difficult to read the forums.
@eb23282 you can’t “mouse over” anything using a mobile device and many folks use mobile devices to access this forum.
To the person having trouble navigating…bookmark a thread in athletic recruits. Then just go to your book, arks, Open that thread and then you can get to the main area easily for athletic recruits.
Great, but no mouse for my cell or tablet.
The bookmarking and the “mousing over” are both work arounds for poor design and really shouldn’t be necessary.
How the heck will people coming here who are new ever navigate anything? Most won’t.
CC really needs to utilize some end user testing going forward.
I had a notification that I was mentioned in a post. I have no way of knowing how many new pages have accumulated in that thread, or even what page the post was on.
The current page you were on was pretty clear until a week ago. The current page was displayed in bold. Something has changed and it needs to be fixed because no one has time to click through pages until they figure out where they are in a thread.
I use the iPad on CC, but also a desktop. It is true in either case. And on the desktop, if I hover over a page number, there is no grey box at all. @CCadmin_Sorin
"And on the desktop, if I hover over a page number, there is no grey box at all. "
I see the grey box while hovering over the page numbers on this thread, except the last page number .
I’m on my PC , using a mouse and Firefox.
"on the left hand side there is a section “Discussion Topics”. If you click on “College Admissions and Search” under that, second section down is “Specialty College Admissions Topics”. There you will find Athletic Recruits.
GOOD GRIEF! Someone has to BLINDLY click on TWO general "topic "menus to find Athletic recruits??
That is RIDICULOUS!
@CCadmin_Sorin , this kind of opaque, maze- like path to any topic will lead to the death of College Confidential , if it is not corrected soon.
“IMO, the need a more extensive menu on that front page”
I second the motion.
The new owners broke something that was not broken, and the fixes , as welcome as they are, are taking way too long to implement.
@eb23282 that doesn’t seem to work on Firefox.
@tkoparent I use Firefox, and I view it like eb23282. There’s no gray box on the current page.
I see it now @taverngirl , thanks.
@menloparkmom , agreed. I don’t know anyone finds the College Life forum now. That’s the one place students can turn to if they are feeling overwhelmed or just need advice about college life.
In order to find it, it means clicking only on the left broader search box to College Admissions and Search. Then you have to keep scrolling. But it’s not then under College Admissions. And why would it be? The kids going to the College Life forum aren’t searching for a college and have already been admitted. It makes NO sense.
Please fix the “most active this month” feature. It’s seems this is based on getting badges and points which only require that an older poster log in. There is at least one poster on that list who hasn’t posted since 2013.
This “most active this month” feature should be based on number of posts in the month…not badges or whatever.
Imagine new posters who look at this list, and wonder what the most active posters are saying…and find out that they haven’t posted since 2013 or so.
Just get rid of “most active this month”. It’s really meaningless, IMO, even if it was displaying valid info.
