Can someone explain why there is not editing box? How do you put words in bold, italic, quotations in blue, etc etc.
And the @name in blue?
Do you know by heart the commands to use?
In all other forums I participate there is a small editing box that offers the commands.
What am I missing?
All I can see is the stupid emoticons.

You need to use bulletin board code:

Well I was going to use the no parse tag, but either it doesn’t work or I am misrembering. So instead don’t use { } use

{size=4}This is big. {/size} -> This is big.
The text size will be whatever number you use. I believe 2 is default, so higher than 2 to make text larger, 1 to make it smaller, 2 to have no effect.

{color=blue}This is blue.{/color} -> This is blue.
Changes the color of the text to whatever color you put

{b}This is bold.{/b} -> This is bold.

{i}This is italics. -. {/i} -> *This is italics. -. *

{quote}This is in a quote box. {/quote}

I create at least 3 drafts before I send them off to a “reviewer” to check if my posts “sing” and “tell a story” of who I a really am (by “showing, not telling”).

When i get that feedback, I usually go through 2 or 3 more drafts before I send it back to the reviewer for final approval.

fluffy wins the thread. :-)

OP has a point–there used to be a link with info on all of the posting codes. I can’t find it now.

Mathmom:
this is code

I just pay a consultant to write 'em for me, but it really reflects my voice.

Hey, I could do that. $50 an hour. Send me a PM. :))

But seriously – the OP asked a real question. You can edit your posts for 15 minutes after you posted it, to correct any mistakes, by clicking on the sign that looks [to me] like a gear. It only appears when your cursor hovers over where it is – in the upper right corner of your post.

I hate that we get Post edited message when we edit our posts. Come on, we only have 15 minutes now, can’t we just agree that the post that appears after 15 minutes is the post the writer intended?

And the one single good thing (longer editing times) about the new boards they took away! I was close to running out of time when the noparse thing didn’t work.

Here’s a link to some other BB Code stuff - note that different bulletin boards may turn off some of this stuff. Like Noparse.

But on most message boards you don’t need to know any codes at all. All you do is click on “go advanced” and all the commands are there. You just click on the one you want. And of course, all other message boards have a quote feature, too (and yeah, I know TPTB argument why they don’t have it and it’s just silly, imo.)

All other message boards have post numbers, too.

Re: the edit time - yes, TPTB acted on the one thing no one was complaining about.

Ironic, isn’t it?

Thanks for the replies and the funnies.
I guess I started participating in message boards the last couple of years so I did not know that there is such a thing as “bulleting board” code.

Apparently emoticons were in great demand.

On my browser the emoticon thing constantly gets in my way. It’s in the text window, covering up what I’m typing.

Wait — What other message boards? There are other boards?

I have the same issue Cardinal Fang. It does get in the way and is very annoying.

Amusing (for lack of a better word) observations:

1: We now get LESS time to edit (15 min) than we used to

2: The “Official” forum updates and CC update FAQ threads (the ones at the very top of the community and forum section) to post questions and comments are locked,http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/ but you can still buy “official” CC thongs and boxers <a href=“CC Undies : College Confidential Shop”>CC Undies : College Confidential Shop;

3.The link to the CC forum rules is nowhere to be found

Even our ol’ buddy curmudgeon is scratching his head with the new rollout <a href=“Sorry. Can't figure this new thing out. - #2 by curmudgeon - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>Sorry. Can't figure this new thing out. - #2 by curmudgeon - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums;

Interesting you should mention that. I looked and looked for them yesterday and finally asked a mod about it, thinking I was just missing it somehow. Nope, it’s not there. The mod did send me a link:

https://auth.collegeconfidential.com/module.php/hobsonspolicies/policy.php?policy=tos

Also, for some bizarre reason, if I send a PM to anyone, it says I’ve sent it to: screen name “plus 1 person.” Even if I type the name rather than clicking on it, it still tells me I’ve sent it to 2 people.

I mentioned that in another thread here <a href=“***OFFICIAL THREAD TO REPORT PROBLEMS OR MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT NEW CC SITE - #331 by omgmakemesmarter - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/1621762-official-thread-to-report-problems-or-make-comments-about-new-cc-site-p23.html and someone said that the PM discussion title thing was, for some unknown reason, changed from “between XXXX and you” to between XXXX and one other". Apparently thats ??? less confusing??? and ???more important??? that POST NUMBERS??? =))

And the TOS are still , other than through a link like you posted above, not on the current site. #-o

Maybe this is why all the new emoticons are also … essential… :D/

It’s not right for CC to enforce TOS when they haven’t even managed to post it on the new site for all to see. Despite the proclamations that CC “cares” about making the site more user-friendly, several posters on another thread wrote that they have been told “if you don’t like it, then leave” by forum administrators. So, really, what we now see is probably going to be all that we get, and I wouldn’t expect many further improvements.
