Internationals who received aid, tell us about yourselves!

@vlad7777 It is still possible for you to come to the US for grad school. Maybe even a free ride for that. Hopefully one of your applications comes through for you. Good luck.

@gearmom Thank you. Yes, I’ve been thinking of that, if I don’t get accepted, I will try again for grad school.
Are you sure that the deadline for Howard is not until March 15th? Their website tells that it’s February 15th.

@vlad7777 Shoot. It is Feb 15 for internationals. You need to plan for grad school early if you want to go to grad school here. Your school is Poland is a top school right?

@gearmom Yes, it is a pretty good school - Warsaw University of Technology. I believe it is one of the best technological universities in Poland. If I don’t get accepted right now, should I begin planning for grad school right away?

Grad is AFTER undergraduate

vlad777 – just so you understand. UNDERGRADUATE in the US means Bachelor’s degree. When you graduate with a Bachelor’s you apply for GRADUATE programs which are Master’s Degree and PhD (Doctorate). Competition is very stiff for most graduate programs, but the benefit is that most PhD programs (and some Master’s) are funded, meaning the school gives you a stipend and you don’t have to pay tuition.

@paul2752 @katliamom I understand the difference between grad and undergrad perfectly. What I was asking was whether I should be preparing for applying for the grad school right after I start undergrad.

Hopefully one of your universities will admit you with sufficient scholarships. If that doesn’t happen, we’ll discuss grad school.
When do you hear back?

@MYOS1634‌ I will hear back from the most of the unis on March 30. Today I received a rejection from MIT. Hope some other college accepts me…

Good luck, vlad7777! But it sounds like you also have good options in your home country. Good for you.

SO sorry about MIT.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed and I hope you keep us updated (all that finger crossing is going to be very long without a little relief to wave a yay or two! )

@MYOS1634‌ Thank you for your support! I really need it now, it’s probably the most stressful period.
I just got a decision from Macalester - no luck here either. I feel kind of disappointed - I thought that I had a good chance of getting in this school.

I know you’re disappointed, but try to keep it in perspective: for international students, trying to get into known a school with a near full ride is a bit like trying to win a lottery. The odds are against you, no matter how good a student you are. Sad, but that’s the reality.

@vlad7777 I am in the same boat as you we probably applied to the same schools and need aid ( I got rejected from MIT, macalester, Uchicago). It sucks because a kid that had the same extracurriculars as me and lower scores got in ( She didn’t need aid)) so it hurts a lot. However, have hope! Hopefully we’re gonna get accepted and if not we’ll do even better at the place we will be next year.

If anyone’s interested in updates:
Franklin and Marshall college - accepted with almost full ride
Skidmore college - rejected
Trinity college - waitlisted

Congratulation for Franklin and Marshall!

Congratulations!!! Franklin&Marshall is a superb college… at an affordable price. bravo!

Wish I had applied there :frowning:

Congratulations, vlad! You’re not too far from Philadelphia, New York City, the beaches – great location and a very good college. Are you celebrating?

@paul2752 @MYOS1634‌ @katliamom Thank you all for your kind words! I am very glad indeed! It’s much easier to wait for the rest of decisions to be posted when you know that there is a decent college that accepted you. I am waiting for Johns Hopkins, U of Richmond, UPenn and Princeton to post their decisions. My chances are rather slim, I know, but I still have some hope
