My son just got into Biological Scholars. It sounds like a great fit! No merit mentioned. Even though things have gone very smoothly for my son, I am very bothered by what happened to the other EA students, who all seemed to get deferred, and the ones that were told they got into honors, only to find out 30 minutes later that they did not. Having an older son at another Big 10 university, smooth systems and communications are vital, not just for the application process, but on everything! Can anyone who is currently an Ohio State parent speak to the fact of how these systems run for their current student?

OSU should be ashamed and honestly refund the application fee to those applicants whose application was not reviewed in time due to lack of staff.

EA kiddo still in limbo - very frustrating, mostly bc of so much speculation that their applications were not even read and got mixed in with last of RD :frowning:

Same here. Deferred EA on 1/25. I am trying to get my daughter to email them and ask, but that’s like pulling teeth

My dd did. And was told March date :frowning:

Does that mean we aren’t eligible for merit or honors or scholars? Because it feels like those things already happened :frowning:

My kid is also deferred EA in limbo. I don’t get how kids that applied regular decision by Feb. 1st were already given a decision on Feb. 18th, yet the kids who applied EA still haven’t heard. And no communication at all from OSU. I’m an alumni and extremely disappointed with how OSU has handled this.

Agreed. I don’t understand why OSU would not prioritize the deferred EA limbo kids first. I get it for those who were deferred before Jan 21st but for those just deferred because they could not get to them :grimacing: it’s not right

Could the mistake with OSU be that the batch of emails for the kids are actually legitimately deferred- their applications were looked at and there was a tech problem with the batch of emails sent to kids that have been deferred? Could the apology from OSU be referencing the fact the students weren’t notified when they were supposed to be and not meaning that they never looked at the applications… just they looked at the applications they are indeed supposed to be deferred and sorry the batch of deferred emails weren’t sent when they were supposed to be? That makes would make more sense than just they didn’t bother to look at their applications then or now.

Where did this assumption that they were deferred because no one looked at their applications come from? Why isn’t that same assumption being made about previously deferred kids? There were highly qualified kids deferred both times.

That’s what I’m wondering? Unfortunately deferrals are common. I understand that the email came days late but I don’t understand the assumption either.

Has anyone that has been deffered heard about being accepted? Will it be on a rolling basis or one big mass decision at the end of March?

Someone in this forum wrote this a few days ago:

My dd emailed her area rep- they said end of March .

In addition to the post someone pasted below, there is another one (maybe post 844…I forget), where a high school guidance counselor reached out and was given the same information: The mass deferrals happened because of insufficient staffing.

Most majors may fill up by the end of march i think. Sounds more like a soft rejection than a deferral to me. In our case we have moved on …

Has anyone admitted in Jan received Honors notification yet? If so, how was that communicated?
