Yes - but was the apology actually for the late release of the deferred email batch, not that the application was never reviewed? It seems more likely that the AO was apologizing for the students not receiving the deferral email on the Early action notification date, and that the application was actually reviewed and determined to be deferred until March. Otherwise what, noone was supposed to be deferred at all? Not likely
I donāt think thatās true. I think the one issue was the the email batch of all the deferrals were not sent properly. Whether that was due to a technical glitch or a staffing problem , maybe, but no one has shown anything that actually shows the applications slipped through the cracks. Doesnāt add up. If that were the case OSU would not make them wait until the end of March. The OSU has had many applicants for many years. Also, what does it matter now? Wait or move on. People are deferred, it happens.
Pretty much every discussion forum for every big school with a large deferred population has come to this conclusion. Iāve seen no statement from any school confirming this fact. Someone hypothesizes and it slowly morphs into a āfactā.
I think you are exactly right. Except usually I see posters say itās yield protection. The deferred and not reviewed is a new one to me
My kid got in on December 10. I have no dog in this fight. You asked what the basis of the assumption was and I told you what has been said in this post.
Also, Iāve seen applicants to other state schools, particularly the University of Michigan, say that all OOS applicants arenāt always reviewed in EA, especially if they fall above/below a certain threshold.
Again, I have no evidence one way or another. Your question was what was the basis of the assumptions.
I was following this thread at the time, and my recollection is that all of the notifications sent out by OSU following the expected Jan 21 notification date were deferrals. It seems to be an unusual situation.
I didnāt ask. That was another reply
To me it seems that they separate the applicants into email batches. Ie: Accepted, deferred rejected, etc. which would make sense that all deferred applicants were in the batch of emails that didnāt get sent for whatever reason
Has anyone got financial aid?
Are any kids getting acceptances? or is everything coming out end of March? meaning, will they let people know as they are accepted, or is everything held until end of March.
A friendās son received an acceptance last week, having applied EA. I donāt know if he got the earlier deferral message or not.
I have twin boys who both applied to OSU. They have very similar academic stats. One was notified of acceptance on 12/9/21, accepted to honors a week later, and received a merit scholarship notification via mail on 2/7/22. He has a 35 ACT, 4.0, 36 credit hours from a local college, 3 varsity sports, key club, and NHS.
My other son was deffered on 1/25/22. The guidance counselor contacted our AO. She was told his application would be reviewed again for the March 25th decision day. He has a 31 ACT, 3.9 GPA, 33 credit hours from a local college, captain of the swim team, NHS, and a member of Key Club. I certainly hope he is accepted. Itās so difficult when you have mulitples!
So sorry for your situation. I was under the impression colleges ask about siblings on the application to avoid a situation like this. maybe i am wrong. The decisions should be together in such cases.
Nevertheless, OSU seems disorganized in sorting and reviewing applications. Especially the mass deferral that happened on after 1/21.
OSU did ask about siblings on the application. We were informed they use a hollistic approach. Unfortunately, the sibling notification didnāt work in our case.
Has anyone heard from Morrill scholarship?
My son said someone he knew just found out recently they were accepted. My guess is that they found out 2/18 regular decision.
Nope. Not yet
I think the OSU rep that told my son there was a snafu was probably correct only because the 15 student applicants from our OOS school to OSU were all deferred after the 1/21 date and all have still not heard anything. Usually our school acceptance rate is over 50%ā¦so, it is odd. I would image in a normal cycle that there would be a combination of acceptances, rejections and deferralā¦I donāt think the idea that no one would be deferredā¦that would be silly. My son, and others from his class, most likely have moved on simply because of other school offers at this point. OSU was a safety for my son, one that he was truly interested in if he received honors/scholarship $, but since he has received honor college and presidential scholarships from two schools ranked higher than OSU my guess is that he will probably choose one of those. You could be right that all the kids this year from his school were chosen to be deferred and the OSU admissions rep simply wasnāt forth coming, but I think that is more unlikelyā¦who knows? It is a weird admissions year.
My son was also deferred in December. That is truly a shame if they did not review those EA applications. Like him, most of those kids probably had OSU as their number one school. Is there any chance that they hear before the March 25th date? I would hope that it is at least now on a rolling basis or so.
My guess is probably not. Now there is the pool of all of the RD students as well as the large deferred group from 1/25, as well as deferrals from 12/10 and 1/21. Iām not sure what would really motivate them to send out answers, unless someone is an exemplary student, before the target date.
