Thanks for the info! I knew it was up there, but didn’t see the exact numbers. I think you’re correct, they’ll probably accept another 5k. Apps are definitely up everywhere the past 2 years which makes it a lot more competitive. At my daughter’s college, they had record apps and actual admittances the past 2 years as well.
I think the answer is the student was deferred. Deferrals stink and limbo is no fun but deferrals, waitlists, rejections, happen to many many students. Something you just have to deal with. Why not start a deferral thread? 6 plus weeks is enough complaining already
Has anyone since last week heard about merit scholarship or Morrill ?
Nope!
My kid wrote an email to them today, so I will let you know if there is a response.
Has anyone attended the Buckeye Bound admitted students day in person? What was it like? Do you get to see dorms?
Are there sessions for honors?
Are there sessions available for parents and students or just students? (ex financial aid?)
Thanks in advance.

IMO there is no reason for another thread. This is for the class of 2026 with various info, including students who have high stats and got deferred 1/21… which by the way… extended to 1/31 and still deferred… obviously OSU is way behind b/c of not preparing for exceeded amounts of applications… as commented above 71.3k. If you are not happy about seeing deferred posts, you have the ability to scroll past them.
In am going to stop responding to you, but just because the posts don’t apply to you doesn’t mean they are not constructive to others.
Thanks
I tend to agree, but we can only speculate. Honestly, she’s lucky to have lots of great options. After seeing the odd admissions that OSU has offered to much lower achievers—whatever the reason—she’s not interested in going there anyway. At this point, she thinks they are kind of a joke. I, on the other hand, am still waiting to see the final decision. I did pay them a $70 application fee, after all.
Admissions is holistic, even if someone has a lower GPA or test score than your child - that does not make your child more entitled to a spot at a university. Holistic means there are LORs and essays and counselor’s recommendations and other factors (demographics, ECs, etc.) - if the applicant feels entitled and superior it could show through these other pieces of the puzzle. My husband is a part of the admissions team of a big name medical residency and fellowship program (one of the top in the USA) and when he reads through LORs and recommendations there are plenty of top achievers who are pushed to the bottom of the pile because their recommendations are mediocre when compared to others that might not have had as high stats. I am amazed how some parents can diminish other children’s achievements (and they are all children at the end of the day, they have barely even finished a fifth of their lifetime achievements) because their child did not get the prize. Get over it and understand there is a reason your child was deferred or rejected and someone else’s child was accepted - it was not an accident - celebrate other children’s victories and teach your child to do the same.
We went to Buckeye Bound today and found it to be informative. When my son registered he received a followup email that included the option sign up for breakout information sessions. The day began with a welcome, then we moved to a College info session, then lunch. After lunch we had chosen three consecutive info sessions, one of which was for Honors. The sessions were open to everyone, and I believe there was a Financial Aid choice, but we did not attend that. There were campus tours being conducted, but we’ve already toured so we didn’t do that, either. I do not believe that there were dorm tours offered today.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for writing this! I’m amazed and tired of seeing other disparage applicants they feel are not as good as their child. It’s not right
Post number please.
Thanks so much for the Buckeye Bound info. My son and husband have already toured, but it was last summer when not as many students around. My son has it down to a few schools that offered him honors and merit, so I am hoping that Buckeye Bound would help him make his decision easier. Glad to hear positive feedback.
My daughter was EA in the second wave and was admitted on 1/21.
Are you OOS and did they get merit ? Thanks In advance !
OOS Parent, daughter has been accepted. Waiting to hear about Merit/Finical Aide. From my reading will be late March, any chance we could see it earlier. Would like to see if finically can make it feasible
I think i might call today and ask
Same here! DD accepted back in December. OOS. Ready to put deposit down, but no one has a clear answer. Some say all merit has gone out already and some are saying until end of March. We are frustrated.
