Ohio State Class of 2026 Admission

So scholarships are through end of march and the next week or so for mail merit?

I honestly don’t know ! Sounds like different people have different answers. My kid for sure does have the answer about Morrill since they heard from the director of the program. That is on a rolling basis until the end of March and will get an answer either way by email. Merit scholarships seem like they have been done, but we keep hearing different things.

Definitely! Mine has already moved on. She was accepted at so many other colleges that she prefers, anyway. They all land where they are meant to.

Same with mine BUT sadly OSU is their fave.

We are in IL, too. My son is high stats and is in the Biological Scholars program which is what he wanted. I feel confident that your daughter, my son and others will get merit, but I think it’s just slow to roll out. We have other schools booked to tour over spring break that require a flight and I’d like to get OSU on the docket, but not until we know about merit first.

I so hope you are right! OSU was not even on my DD’s radar. Then we visited twice and now she is like over the moon. Only a couple of reach schools would make her change her mind. Ooo biological ! What is our son’s major ? Mine would be chemistry at OSU, but would be in the law and society scholarship. Are you in the burbs or city? We are city. Best to you!!

Your daughters application was most likely not read. All the EA applicants in the second wave of decisions were all deferred since they did not have enough readers for the apps. I heard of another scenario similar to this where the student with lower stats got in and the student with high GPA/test scores and AP’s and EC’s was deferred-SO UNFAIR.

No, actually my daughter was admitted to
OSU early back in December. However, we have received no merit so not sure feasible. Where did people come up with the idea that these applications were not read? I mean my daughter was deferred from Madison, but I just assumed they need to see more against the regular decision pool. Who knows. It’s been a whacky process.

Sorry! I thought you were responding to my last comment. Apologies

His major is biology and we are in the burbs, but city daily for work. Hope your daughter hears soon!

Your son as well! However, losing hope as I keep hearing they mailed the last of the merit awards last week. Can’t seem to get a straight answer.

That is not true. There were plenty of admits on the second EA wave. There was an error and the deferred students weren’t notified on the promised date.

everyone we know across the country was deferred in the second wave…ppl on this board even called osu and they said they did not have enough staff to read the applications.

If you go back up the thread to January 21, which is the second wave, you will see there were plenty of posts of acceptances.

Don’t want to create an issue, but it’s just not accurate that there were ā€œplenty of posts of acceptancesā€ around January 21. You can scroll up and see. And students with much better credentials than many accepted in December were all deferred in January. OSU said they received 50,000 EA applications when they ordinarily receive around 20,000.

I scrolled through on January 21- over 6 weeks ago now!- and stopped after seeing over 20 notifications from posters of a decision… there were also rejections- not just acceptances but there were ā€œplentyā€ of decisions released in the second wave. Not all second wave applicants were deferred. I don’t think I’m alone in that I think it would be nice to move on from this topic to sharing more constructive information.

My daughter has moved on also. She’s never heard a thing from them after getting admitted in December. She already has a scholarship and admitted to the Honors college to another great school where we think she’ll end up.

I think those of us deferred just want a truthful answer from OSU and it sounds like different admissions people have relayed different answers. If they were true deferrals so be it, March 25th has felt like forever when you apply EA and are stuck in limbo with stories that admissions hasn’t even finished reading your application and it got sent to the last of RD .

OSU had around 47k applications and admitted 24k for class of 2023. For the class of 2024 they had around 53k applications and accepted about 33k, and i haven’t seen the data from the class of 2025, but they had record apps, admitted, and accepted. Probably due to covid and students taking a gap year. From what I’ve heard, they had around 65-70k apps this year which is significantly higher, but they are used to having over 50k applications. It sounds like the AO’s or counselors are giving differing info to everyone about why there was so many deferrals, which is unfortunate. I will say, just as an example, U of Michigan is known for giving a small number of acceptances during EA and deferring the rest until regular decision, and will give some denials in EA if they aren’t competitive. The ā€œrumorā€ was always that they didn’t have time to read and that’s why they give so many deferred. A lot of big schools put out a lot of deferrals during EA so they can compare to students in RD. Either way, a deferral is better than a denial so they can give apps the time they need to look at. Historically, other than the Morrill (i think they give around 400) or Eminence, or the Buckeye (for OOS), OSU gives out very little merit (either $1k, $2k, or $3k). Many colleges are becoming more competitive with students with similar stats and do holistic reviews. There’s a number of factors they look at, not just gpa or test scores, such as under represented students, first gen, essay etc… With that many apps, students apps need to ā€œstand outā€ and not look like everyone else’s. No matter the reason, i feel bad for everyone who was deferred from EA, because there’s a lot of students with great stats and only so many spots.

last year they had 63.1k apps, accepted 33.6k, this year they had 71.3k and I suspect will accept 35.5k to get to their stated freshman class goal of 7.8k. The last 2 years the classes were 8.6k and 8.3k, respectively…so they overshot their ideal class size of 7.5k to 7.8k. They have already accepted 30.0k, so I suspect they will accept about 5k more between now and the end of March. I think the next major wave could be next Friday, but just guessing based on some estimates.
