Yeah same with mine. It’s frustrating
Only those that applied early action are eligible for merit
Right! I forgot about that. Well then I am going to assume if we don’t hear by this week then my kid did not get it.
Are students getting merit (besides the Morrill scholarship) when admitted test optional?
I’m not sure. Has anyone received any of the scholarships applied for through Scholarships Universe?
I’m assuming the same. .
I hope you’re right, that it’s rolling through March. It sounds like you have had several people tell you that, vs. just the one email I received. So there is still hope! I do think that there has not been a lot of rhyme or reason to this with OSU this year.
Unfortunately, my daughter did not apply through there. I think because she got so much merit from other places, she probably just assumed she would get something from Ohio. Ugh! I am just really curious about the test optional thing. All the ones we know all submitted their scores.
Well, I guess if we get our financial aid package and there’s nothing on there, we will just try to call and negotiate.
I think that’s our plan as well. Has anyone done the Buckeye Bound visit? Is it significantly different than the tour they gave us during our other visit?
No, we have visited twice and just mostly toured ourselves and with the chemistry department. It’s kind of frustrating when these kids we know who are getting scholarships and it’s not even close to their chop choice.
We did Buckeye Bound last Saturday. We had done a campus tour last summer, but there was no one around. The campus was a lot more lively this time around, and we found the three sessions we attended quite useful.
How would we know? Applied but haven’t heard anything
Which sessions were the most useful?
My son has an interview Saturday for one of the scholarships he applied to through Scholarship Universe.
We did the Living on Campus, Honors Program and Engineering Facilities tour sessions. All of them were informative. OSU is among S22’s top choices.
My daughter’s friend who I mentioned earlier received the $13,500 Buckeye Scholarship test optional. 3.65 gpa.
Ok this makes no sense. I know stats aren’t everything, but for these merit scholarships they kind of are. Mine has a bit higher than that UW with 17 honors and AP’s with a 4.7 gpa. With no help. I hope something is coming ! Lol for both of us !
I have found the OSU admissions to be completely random. My daughter applied with straight As in a dozen AP and honors classes, a 4.3 GPA, and in the top 5% of her class. Deferred. Her friend who always got As and Bs in basic level classes (not even anything as advanced as Physics or Calculus), and applied test optional because her SAT score was very low (under 1100), accepted with a big scholarship. Granted, mine applied to business, and her friend was liberal arts undecided. Also, mine was in that questionable group who didn’t get their decision until a week later. I know you can’t compare one student to another, but still, very odd! Perhaps they just saw something in this student that they really wanted. She’s a great kid with great community service. Who knows? I find the whole thing very curious, though. I hope you get the scholarship soon!
When mine met with an OSU admissions advisor over the summer, they made it clear that it’s not random and that they do have to turn down even valedictorians. And I get the holistic approach. However, for scholarships it would seem different. They already want you. lol And we don’t have a high EFC for the FAFSA. Who knows! It’s all whacky! Same thing happened to my daughter at Madison as yours at OSU. Deferred. I guess whatever is meant to be, will be!
