Ohio State Class of 2026 Admission

My kid got Morill test optional

Good to know ! Mine applied for Morrill, but never heard back.

Colleges know that students accept (to get in line for housing) then back out. It’s called ‘melt’ and they have precise models for the # of kids who do this. Schools dip into the waitlist when the actual melt exceeds predicted melt. There is absolutely nothing wrong with paying a deposit and backing out later. Yes you have tell them when you back out and no you can’t accept admission* at more than one university at a time, the rest is fair game.
*If housing is separate from accepting admission you can deposit housing at more than one place

End of March - wow! My daughter was admitted in Dec, to scholars in Jan, and we are OOS. No merit thus far. I have tried to call but have been unsuccessful in getting though. I did email, but no response yet. Since we are OOS, and planning trips to see places, I’m anxious to hear if there is any merit for my daughter because it could make a difference. If no merit, then our other options move to the top. When thinking about booking flights, hotels, rental cars, time off school or using days during spring break, it would help to know if it’s worth pursuing or if our resources would be better spend on other options. The fact is, there’s only so much time and money to visit places.

Exactly! Ohio State is at the top if not number one for the school she has gotten into so far. Literally they are the only ones who have not even mentioned merit at all. Penn State is notorious for not giving money, but at least they had her apply for a science scholarship. Mine also got in early December and about a month ago to the scholars program. When I called, they said honors and scholars have nothing to do with merit scholarship. Which scholars program? I know my kid loves the fact that she wouldn’t even have to choose her dorm and that it’s chosen for her.

My daughter was deferred in January with other EA applicants. Should we give up on merit aid? I know she won’t be hearing from OSU now until end of March. I want to take off our list if no chance for merit aid. I agree with others that we should get application fee back since they couldn’t review on time.

@Channing09 We’re in the same boat. OOS CA, admitted in Dec, scholars in Jan, no merit (even though NPC says my S22 will get some). And we’re planning a college tour trip at the beginning of April - need to know soon! Good luck to you!

This is the exact reason my son came to terms that OSU will prob not be his future. It’s been his #1 choice, but with the $ he’s been offered from other schools, w/o merit, it would be the most expensive
(we are OOS). I have a hard time believing they’re suddenly going to offer money after not even offering a decision, LOL. At this point I’d be happy to have my app fee back.

She was accepted to Arts Scholars. We do like the fact that she would be part of a smaller community there. However, the way I read it, they are given priority for a specific dorm, but no guarantee. This is the case for the Arts Scholars dorm, but if your daughter is in a different scholars program, maybe that dorm is guaranteed. Here’s what it it said under Arts Scholars:

**Please note that space in the prescribed residence halls is not guaranteed and students can be placed in other accommodations due to program demand if necessary .

So I take that to mean, if you are later on your deposit, therefore later in line, it could affect you being in the dorm for Arts Scholars. Which would really stink because that’s a big part of the draw, at least to me.

Yes, my daughter’s says the same thing. She would be in the law and society scholars program. I think even if we don’t hear about Merit, we are most likely to put the hundred dollar deposit down for that reason by the end of next week. Then pray lol

I heard back via email from OSU and they said that all merit-based scholarships were awarded by the end of February but to allow 1-2 weeks for snail mail notification. Financial Aid packages will start to be available in March and there will be a notification on the student’s Buckeye Mail when it is ready to view.

That’s so strange, because two different people from admissions had told me they were rolling out through the end of March. So this sucks. Plus my daughter actually emailed the Morrill scholarship program, which is separate, and she got a response back today saying those were also rolling till the end of March.

And would that mean that there is no merit for regular decision?

Morrill is so nerve racking to wait for, wonder how many people applied?

I know. My daughter is so anxious she won’t be able to go there. We are just shocked that she has received nothing. Let alone Morrill. I
Hope the best for you.

You too!

Out of curiosity, have you received other merit ?

My understanding is that if you were deferred you are unable to get any of the merit.

From other schools but nothing from osu

I get that, but aren’t there still students who need to hear from regular decision ? I am not sure because mine was accepted early action.
