Pretty disappointing episode. As noted above there really wasn’t any ‘real’ transformation of trash to treasure. Taking paper or plastic sheets and making a garment is passe - this is why they use the term “transformation” - let us see something that makes us believe is actually fabric, but isn’t. Oh well. I hope the rest of the season surprises me in a good way. I did like the winning look, and I have a feeling Ayana will go all the way.
I was sad to see Sentell go home. I would liked to have seen more from him.
It was interesting to see Shawn crumble. BUT, she said the most reflective thing an overachiever can admit to “I’m afraid of the shame of failure” (my own fashion designer D is also an overachiever, and it’s something she struggles with) - I actually felt for her at that moment. When my D was at Parson’s they were required to hand draw 90 (that’s right ninety!) original designs a week in addition to all their work and their general education stuff too! If you’re an overachiever, and most artists are, that is a monumental task, and one that doesn’t go down smooth. I think Shawn (as annoying as she may be) will also go all the way (and probably annoy me as she does). No so sure about her sister Claire.
@katliamom You wrote above: “I didn’t get the oohs and ahhs over the camo top/sporty skirt outfit. I thought it was pretty lame, actually.” - yesterday I was walking past a chic boutique in Newport Beach, and saw the exact skirt, only in peach denim (ugh!) – it made me wonder if a variation thereof had shown up on a runway or in a fashion mag last year. Yeah, it didn’t look any better in peach denim!
one of my favorite outfits this week was the white top and shorts with the silver metal trim. I did think it transformed materials to meet the challenge.
I liked the concept of this challenge. I won’t give anything away but the person who left was unfortunately the correct choice. That outfit was too ugly. There were two or three people in the “safe” group who totally could have been in the top three and easily could have won.
I thought the red ‘ensemble’ from one of the twins was horrible, and think the loser, the green chartreuse thing, and the red should all have been sent packing. They were all equally awful.
I’d like to see a challenge (or two) where the contestants have to design and sew their garment in a room completely alone (with no consultation or conversations with other designers) rather than in the workroom and let’s see how the twins do – probably not so well. I guess the casting of twins was a gimmick of some sort but I find them both unappealing, whiny, and not incredibly talented.
Late to the party. I watched this week for the first time. Didn’t care for the winning design, but really liked several of the outfits. Which two are the twins?
Shawn (shaved head) and Claire (long hair) are the twins. Of the two, I think Claire has done a much better job. Supposedly they have designed for Katy Perry and Beyonce, etc, so I find it hard to believe they are as bad as the crap they are putting on the runway. Maybe the PR producers are just trying to create drama. I won’t be surprised if they turn it all around (miraculously!) and one of them finishes in the top.
I didn’t “get” the winning look either. Was it a coat? or a dress? or a tunic? I didn’t hate it, I just didn’t think it evoked anything to do with dance or movement. And that chartreuse was hideous in every way. Might have been better if had been about 2 sizes bigger and actually fit his model. Nah, not even that would have helped it. Do agree with the loser.
How about a show with recent grads from different fashion design schools? My DIL graduated from Kent State and currently designs yoga clothes for Senita Athletics (unabashed plug).
@toledo, I love Senita athletics, mostly because they include POCKETS in most of their garments (and they are reasonably priced). Lack of pockets in women’s wear is one of my pet peeves, and for a company to include them even in tight athletic wear is brilliant.
