Purdue University Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I’m sorry - “Sunrise” poster thought they had to accept offer to see Financial Aid. You had mentioned that shouldn’t be the case. I had similar feedback meant for them. BUT related to campus visits - I took both my kids on tours at Purdue (high school grad years 21 and 23). The campus tours were very good. We had a couple different tour guides at the time. We lucked out and were able to stay at the Union hotel… which keeps you physically on campus and able to walk around for the whole stay like a student. Not critical - but that was nice. My older student loved the campus immediately. And that was while they were still renovating the Union (important gathering space, restaurants, etc). It was also with lingering Covid restrictions.) He just liked it immediately. My second kid – who did not have the chance to join us the first time around…Did NOT like it. Second kid was like – absolutely not. Not my vibe. And that kid ended up at IU Bloomington. Another Big10 University – but a different feel altogether. Chances are - they’ll develop an opinion.

My S24 is OOS first year in Daniels and doing very well.
He lives in male only dorm far west end campus (McCutcheon aka Mc Far Far Away). Only a couple of his first year courses are located in B-school buildings, everything else is hodge-podge on the further east side of campus.

He’s pretty extroverted so having to traverse the entire campus from dorms to classes actually helps him engage his nature and ‘investigate’ new areas.

This was his list of things he suggested might be of interest to newly admitted Daniels students that aren’t in the “B-school” area that you’ld get to see on a formal tour there;

Cordova Wellness and Recreation Center
Undergraduate Student Library
Rawls Hall
Purdue Memorial Union
Mackey Arena
Ross-ade Stadium
Intramural sports fields
Triple X Diner
Harry’s Chocolate Shop (Dive Bar with Bar Menu)

He also suggested visiting -several- of the dorms to check out the amenities/living styles because there’s a bit of variation rather than being all the same.

Thank you, that’s very helpful.
How’s the parking situation? We’d lodged about 15 mins away. Wondering if we should Uber if it’s going to be inconvenient finding a parking spot on these busy visit days.

Parking isn’t great.
However it’s not terrible. You can find a spot to park central campus and then you may be best off walking to different destinations (or ubering - they’ve been plentiful when we’ve been to campus) as opposed to trying to drive-park-drive-park etc. As far as lodging, W.Lafayette is not well suited for the influx of college football/basketball weekends, parents weekends and move-in. They have almost no capacity for any real surge in visitors. And hotels in Lafayette may seem like they are just a few minutes across the river but the pathways back onto campus take considerably longer than the ‘as the eagle flies’ route might suggest. If you aren’t staying at PMU on campus, I would seriously get up 30+ minutes earlier than planned and drive onto campus to secure your desired parking location near a breakfast/coffee place grab a bite and enjoy a relaxing 20-30 minutes before heading to your meet up spot.

Also, not sure of your geography. I grew up in Chicago and did my Undergraduate/Professional degrees at UIUC, my wife did her UG at Purdue and Professional at UIUC. We are used to the winters in BigTen country and February is still Winter. It’s likely to be rather short daylight hours and temps will likely be 20s-mid 40s with wind. Pack appropriately in layers so you can shed it as needed - but be prepared to keep warm because being rather cold during campus visits can be a real buzz kill.

That literally sent shivers down my spine… lol.
PNW family here; used to cold weather, but we rarely bundle up, so thanks for that tip.
Very excited for the visit, and can’t wait to be there. Thank you so much for the insights.

It might be a rare break in the weather that week but 7 years in that wind alley that’s coming across from the great plains taints you such that thinking about it still makes me tuck my chin down and squint my eyes even after almost 30 years.

There’s a large parking deck you might want to game plan for - its behind the Main Campus Bookstore (on the corner of Grant and State Street). Grant Street Parking Garage.

You can access it from State/bookstore parking lot, from Grant or from North (north side).

It is right across from PMU and kitty-corner from Krannert(Business School) and Rawls Hall. It also opens up onto the main campus entry point. There are a number of food spots within a couple minutes - and it’s so close to the main bookstore that if you get a bunch of swag there or at the Bschool, you can drop it at the car rather than having to carry it for hours, and it’ll cost you an extra 2 minutes diversion.

Hi there, just wanted to say I appreciate your post! I have a DS who is a sophomore in MechE at Purdue. My HS senior (not interested in engineering) has IU Bloomington near his top choice. We are OOS, and just funny that we may have 2 kids in IN universities:-). And a house divided! PS we love staying at the Union Hotel!

For those deferred and submitted a LOCI, does Purdue release decision on a particular day of what week (say Friday at 5)?

Yes Friday 5pm eastern was how it went last year however there were signs as early as the night before

What type of signs are we talking about :grinning:? The thin tan bar/no bar/disappearance /appearance was accurate - just didn’t work in our favor :joy:!

thanks my DD was deferred for purdue cs OOS.
ACT 35 UW GPA 4.0 WGPA 4.88
lots of AP and lots of computer ECs
she got accept into a few better ranked cs programs than purdue

I’ve heard after last years much higher than expected yield (I believe they had 1,600 more students accept their offer than they expected?), that they were going to manage the numbers better by offering -fewer- EA accepts and more EA waitlists proportionately until they had a handle on the EA yield.

Still, with those stats (and legacy) that’s hard to rationalize.

But now at least all the stress are gone!

Like how many weeks after LOCI is submitted should we expect a decision on a Fri? Any insights? Thanks.

i heard they said from mid Feb!

I’d encourage my student to talk to the students who are part of the event—Purdue does a nice job of having students available to talk to in your program of interest. Check out Boilerlink for an idea of the clubs and extracurriculars (https://boilerlink.purdue.edu/). Walk all around campus–your daughter will either picture herself there or not.

Grant Street Parking is the main visitor lot. You can check with Purdue parking if there are day passes for your event in any other lots not normally open to visitors. Visitor Parking - Purdue University Parking - Purdue University

Walk around Chauncey, which is the neighborhood where Target, TripleX and Harry’s are around Chauncey and State Streets. When Purdue made the Final Four last year, that’s where the kids filled the streets in celebration. Lots of places to eat and drink catering to students. Pizza Uncommon across from TripleX is a newer arrival in the neighborhood and makes good pies.

Check out Main Street in downtown Lafayette where there are a variety of independent shops and restaurants. It’s a nice stroll up and back if the weather is good.

As far as getting around, if staying out near I-65 on or off of South Street, you can avoid some of the traffic by going north on Creasy and west on Union all the way onto campus while everyone else stays on South Street to State.

There’s always something under construction so campus and the surrounding area never look the same way twice it seems.

If any prospective engineers or STEM majors are visiting campus tomorrow, I’d recommend walking through the Spring Expo career fair just to get a sense of how the university runs their fairs. Spring Expo is much smaller than the Fall Industry Roundtable but still would be fun to see. EXPO Student Info Center — Purdue Engineering Student Council

There are a couple parking garages- I always park at the one across from the Union Hotel entrance.

did any deferred student receive decision after submitting LOCI?
