the Great British Baking Show- anyone else a fan?

I just love this PBS show, 7 pm Sunday. So much diversity, so little drama. Just terrific cooking and judging.

I watched it last year and loved it. I’m saving this year’s episodes to watch with DD when she’s home on break. Was so impressed last year with all they baked - and especially with the composure of the 17 year old who was on it (can’t remember her name).

Watching it right now. I remember there was a similar show called, “The Great American Bakeoff.”

The British Mary is amazing. One bite and she knows all. I’m so impressed. I have my favorites, mostly the underdogs. So happy others are watching.

I watch it. Makes me miss English bakeries so much!

Love it! I think my PBS station is actually airing episodes from 2 seasons back and we got the most recent season during the January - March season along with Downton Abbey. At least that’s what it looks like from the dates posted on my DVR. S is living here while he works a temporary position for a few months and we’ve been watching together.

@bookworm, I’m almost with you on the little drama except for the episode where one of the bakers used the filling of one of her competitors

Also love it. I actually think there’s lots of drama!

Love it!

Thank you all. Sometimes I feel like such an outlier.

If you’ve seen this season before, does Becca win?

I love it, too, although I preferred the first season. It’s hard to have favorites because I always like everyone and always a little sad to see any go. SO nice to avoid all the fabricated drama and sob stories created in American reality tv shows. Very quaint for lack of a better word.

The host Sue is the best!

Last year’s 17 year old was amazing. But they’re all incredible. Wish I could be a taster.

I love the show! It makes me feel so good to see these accomplished bakers run into the problems I’ve encountered. Not that I can come close to baking what they are doing, but just to see that even good bakers have dough that doesn’t roll out easily, bakes that burn, uneven rise, etc. I’ve always found baking stressful; I don’t feel so bad now after watching them.

I would love to see all the past episodes of the Bake-Off, so I will binge on youtube one of these days. One thing I loved about the season I saw on PBS last year and this year is that the contestants all seem so supportive of one another.
I actually watched the American version that was on one summer. It was also fun. If they had done it on PBS, it could have been a hit but they put it on CBS with Jeff Foxworthy as the host. My favorite cast member was a lovely Southern woman.

Love this show (I DVR it and watch it when I can) - just watched two episodes this weekend. I am watching the second season (or at least the second season which my PBS station is running) and watched almost all of the first season. I tend to root for the young ones! What I like about it vs. american competitive cooking shows is that the judges don’t yell or berate the contestants (hate the why they treat people on Masterchef).

I love it. I’ve binge-watched a couple of past seasons, and the one that just concluded in Britain.

Youtube the Extra Slice shows that accompanies each episode, Brit humor at its droll best.
The home made bakes are hilarious.

Latest batch of Brit episodes of GBBO were compelling and dramatic.
Outstanding bakers and technical challenges.

Love, love, love this show. The only reason that I’ve not quit my job and stayed home to watch every single season is that a friend and I are watching it together (and we’re only halfway through the first season). I started looking around for recipes–I see the recipes from the technical challenges, but not from the contestants. Are those available somewhere?

One thing I especially like is the judges’ positive attitude. They always find something to complement, even when someone’s bake is a disaster.

If I had millions, I would love to develop a community of garden homes for empty nesters. I think I would have coralbrook from our flipping threads be the general contractor and then invite all my CC friends to move there so we could have community viewings The Voice and The Great British Baking Show! We could also hold live meetings of the CC book club. I think we have so much in common and that’s why some of us have never graduated from CC, even when our kids have graduated from college

I used to bake all of our bread, scones, cakes, pies, you name it–pate a choux, puff pastry, tiered wedding cakes, even–but I stopped when I had to go on a low carb diet. Watching the show has been a cross between pleasure and torture for me.

I bought a jar of yeast today at the grocery store.
I’m just sayin’

I never baked like Consolations n, but I’d bake cookies and coffee cakes for my patients. I especially like fruit crumb cakes. In past year, my women aren’t indulging, and the males only want chocolate. I lost my passion. I did make chocolate chip cookies Sunday, but sometimes buy chocolate Oreos. For me, making rug gala and other treats was much more interesting.
