She was good . Helped by the song though and her fellow singers.
It was good and I love the whole ACM show, but she sounded a little too âbreathyâ to me.
I wasnât all that crazy about Kevinâs talk with Tess. Heâs an actor for crying out loud! While he canât relate to what she was going through, he must have a dozen friends/colleagues who can! In addition to the âyouâll find parts of yourselfâ (which was pretty good writing), he could have suggested someone as a mentor for her.I did love Tessâs sensitivity that she didnât want to bother her parents about clothes while they were having problems.
I agree it was Kevinâs son, and I think Kevin was out getting takeout so there could be some mystery as to whether he was Kevinâs or whether it was Jack. But I think Jackâs older than that - and nice to see in the flash forward that he made it.
And I thought it was pretty funny that Beth and Randall said have to âdownsizeâ in Philly - not after selling a huge house in Alpine, they wouldnât! Although if they did, theyâd have plenty left over to live on, regardless of salaries.
Way over the top. Starting with Jackâs arrival and Rebecca was already in a private room, with a cast on her arm and an IV started. Seriously? Who is likely to get through Emerg that quickly? So unrealistic. And then taking the kids there in the middle of the night? Ridiculous. These kids are what 12 or 13? Theyâre old enough to understand that her injuries were not serious and that sheâd be home the next day. Jackâs speech to the nurse? Ridiculous. And the corn sandwiches? Ugh. I like this show but why do they have to always go a step, or ten, too far to make things so dramatic.
Rebecca in the NICU was super annoying. She was overstepping with the constant interruption of the doctor, asking for spelling, etc. etc. Kate was rolling her eyes, with good reason. Then to see Kate give in to her and claim that sheâd never be able to live up to her as a mom. I really wish they had had Kate be strong, tell Rebecca that while she was grateful for her help, that she was Jackâs mom and that Rebecca needed to allow her that.
If itâs only 15 years in the future, Jack wouldnât have a âmateâ, and is likely coming with Kate. I agree that the headfakes are lazy writing, just like their squishy timelines so often on this show.
Only 15 years in fast forward? Missed that. Those actors looked far too advanced in age, then, it seems. Perhaps not Tess, but, the aging is a little much.
They would certainly find a house that is cheaper than the Alpine one. But it would be smaller, hence the downsize. If they had to move to his district, they arenât going to find some big center hall colonial with 5 bedrooms. Maybe a very nice large old townhouse, depending on where exactly this district is.
Downsizing might be required if Randall and Beth use a portion of the money from their Alpine house to get (and possibly refurbish) a dance studio/start the business in addition to buying their new home. Plus there likely will be less income coming in so they may want to lower their monthly mortgage expenses.
Maybe the dance studio will have a large apt above it or somethingâŠ
The flyer for the house they are presumably buying in Philadelphia was on the counter when they were packing up their Alpine house at the end of the episode. It shows a row house, but I believe it said it was four bedrooms and three bathrooms, which is still pretty large.
I think that was Mandy Moore done up to look 80 in that scene. It favored her for sure.
I know a lot of 80 year olds and none of them look like that!
Has anyone seen a photo of that last scene? My DVR cut off so I didnât get to see it and am curious what Mandy looked like!
I couldnât find a photo but this is an interesting article: https://variety.com/2018/tv/features/this-is-us-mandy-moore-hair-makeup-1202725683/
Mandy still had shoulder length hair, but it was gray.
So the big house in the future-scene is Kevinâs ? I had assumed it was a new Beth/Randall house. Either way it was odd that it was new to Toby⊠since they are such a close clan, itâs either a new purchase OR heâs no longer part of the family.
There was a comment that made it obvious it was Kevinâs house.
Yes, the Vulture recap makes clear it is Kevinâs house and that Toby is without his wedding ring.

Which really puzzles me because I would think that, if Kate died, Toby would still wear his wedding ring unless heâs with someone elseâŠof course, Iâm sure some do remove their rings after a spouseâs death but, in my image of This Is Us world, he would keep it on. But, divorce doesnât make sense as then Kate would have been there.
With Tobyâs history of depression, I donât find it beyond imagination that he and Kate might not make it. I guess weâll know more by this time next year, but probably not much!
Being overweight is what brought Toby and Kate together, right? Maybe Toby loses weight and Kate canât handle that he is different that way - it becomes a wedge between them. I saw maybe Toby lost the weight because in real like the actor who plays Toby is NOT overweight - so it would be easy to take that fake weight off him.
