Tuition Exchange for Fall 2024 (Class of 2028)

Well my daughter got her first TE acceptance along with the school acceptance. On the one hand it is one of her top choices and under 10% TE rate so that part is exciting. What is not exciting is that it is set rate and even with scholarships they have the COA $25 K. I just don’t know if we can afford that. I was hoping this school would be the most affordable choice but I don’t think it is going to be.

Oh, that is bittersweet! I have a spreadsheet with costs with waiver (as CIC only it’s always full tuition, so basically room and board) and with NPC and no waiver, and her top choice is at the top end of doable by NPC. The rest are not. (Top choice - Wheaton- also had the option of submitting financials to get an estimate aid offer with acceptance, but of course acceptance is key!)
Congratulations on her acceptance and TE notice!

Congratulations! Is that COA with or without the cost of room and board? As great as TE is at some schools, R&B is so expensive that there is still sticker shock.

That is with room and board. So basically between TE and the regular merit her tuition isn’t quite covered plus the room and board. So the TE for the year is only $8500

I have just started doing a spreadsheet. I think it will help keep things in perspective and organized.

I know CIC isn’t as well known but I would much rather have the guarantee of full tuition. I didn’t know the set rate would not be close to tuition (at our acceptance). Don’t get me wrong I am happy we received it I am just bummed to be so far off what I was expecting.

We received TE (full tuition a couple of years ago). R&B, books and other fees (not covered by TE) still cost us $25K a year !

Argh! It just makes me a little sick as my oldest went to school 10 years ago and it wasn’t even close to what things are now. She didn’t have TE at the time but had almost a full tuition scholarship to USC. So that means we spent less at USC then we probably will even with TE. But, I am glad we aren’t going there now. I heard it is like 90K per year :scream:

We got a tuition exchange offer today at Merrimack. I had never heard of the school until a few months ago and I keep running into people who went there. I swear every day someone mentions the school and everyone has the best things to say. It seems like a very small nurturing place. It is completely different from everywhere else we applied. Anyway, wanted to mention it here because they gave him his offer and the tuition exchange at the same time which was also lovely. Full tuition covered but room and board is $20k. Of course, there might also be financial aid.

They are going this weekend (they meaning my husband and son). People RAVE about it. At first I was like “yeah, yeah” sounds nice, but my dentist, my research assistant, my secretary whose cousin went there- seriously something in the water there. If anyone is looking for a small cozy environment definitely consider it. My son has some learning disabilities so that makes it attractive. He really wants a big school with huge sports teams, and a city so not ANYTHING Merrimack has, but we will see after he visits.

Let us know how it goes. Maybe it will be the perfect fit!

I have heard great things about Merrimack as well - it is not on the CIC list, so not on my kid’s list for that reason. I do want to sort of caution that this weekend might not give the best impression (at ANY school) as most have wrapped up fall term and dorms close by Saturday, so it could be particularly dead. (And lots of staff  are already on PTO.) Parking will be a breeze though!
As long as the general location isn’t a huge turnoff, I’d try to go back during the spring semester to get a better vibe for how the actual experience will be.

I was just discussing that with my husband. It’s going to be cold and gross out too. He said he will try to focus on the stuff like the dorms etc. and then in the spring go back if my son hasn’t already decided to see what it looks like green.

I would also spend time around campus, in the town - that might be more lively. I’ve not been but have known others that love the school and have had great experiences.

D24 was just accepted Drexel with $37500 aid. Denied TE though

Is TE full tuition?

Well looks like it is a set rate any way so not full. But their tuition and fees is over $60 k and room and board is like another $17 K. COA for us would be $44 K.

Yep, Drexel is $$$. The set rate is $42K for next year.

So the $37500 without TE wasn’t such a bad offer. I guess we should have investigated the cost a little more.

It was sort of a fluke that my daughter liked it so much. We had went to tour Temple and figured while we were in Philly we might as well see Drexel. She ended up really liking it.
