How is everyone on here that is waiting for TE decisions answer the portal questions for the schools that ask if “you ACCEPT the admission, and intend to enroll”? Almost every one asks us that immediately upon admission decision (way before TE decision). They also want you to fill out housing applications and sometimes state that it’s first come first serve - yet some TE decisions won’t be until mid April. Also, some schools want you to select “yes I accept the merit scholarship/award xyz”. There is no other language about it being binding or really anything - they just ask for a yes/no - and if you don’t choose, sometimes you can’t get to an option to deposit. And some schools use deposit date as a first come first serve thing (for certain limited space majors - like our student). Looking for insight here - do you have to accept these things until you get all the TE decisions, then back out for anywhere that is not your final decision?
I just found out about this site & forum. My daughter applied to 18 schools for TE and CIC when availble. So far she’s heard from 4 schools: 2CIC awarded and 1 TE awarded, denied at Pitt which was her first choice. She applied RD for all because we thought she had to. She’s gotten into all so far (waiting on UD, CWRU, Loyola MD, Catholic)
We don’t accept anywhere we are not fully accepting. I don’t think any of ours have housing deposits that are critical. I hate that, it’s not fair to people who have to wait to see how financial aid plays out.
We haven’t responded yet to anything. D25’s heard from five colleges so far and they indicated they need to know by May 1. Of the three TE ones, only one has offered TE. Another says TE hasn’t been decided yet. In the TE portal, they all say pending import decision. We’re just waiting things out. We have sever RDs coming in March and feel like we can’t do anything until we see to only acceptances, but full FA packages. I don’t really know what else we can do.
Going through this process for the 2nd year in a row. Although all schools would love you to move forward with the acceptance and deposit, usually you don’t have to until May 1. We are also waiting it out. As more TE decisions come in, we will definitely release any that he has ruled out in hopes that someone else can get some good news.
Is anyone else considering a non TE school simply because you are fearful colleges will possibly not renew the TE based on the financially/political climate? The TE schools will still cost us 13-15k/yr total COA. Without the TE, that cost jumps to 40k or more a year.
I’m worried about their father (the TE employee) keeping/staying in his job, too.
For others watching this thread in the future. Waitlisted TE/FACHEX at Creighton. Was told will be put on waitlist until April 22nd.
Not totally surprised. 3.2/3 GPA, test optional.
Duquesne website says notification by Feb 1. I emailed the TE officer:
“We are currently working on finalizing our picks, we should be sending them out within the next week. Keep in mind it is a very competitive scholarship.”
Does anyone have any experience with being waitlisted, and given priority the following year? We have had at least 3 schools tell us that if you are waitlisted (he received 2 waitlist decisions recently) you are given priority over new applicants the following year, as a current student - if you still enroll without TE as a freshman. It’s basically a way to get a 3-year TE scholarship after paying for year 1 (paying full price minus merit aid for that year). I guess the big risk is that there are no guarantees, but the one school did say that historically they have always been able to award ALL the current students (that were previously waitlisted).
I just found this portal and my D25 also applied for Duquesne for TE.
When logging into her admissions portal (on computer or phone) and viewing her financial package under the “estimated payment plan” section (all the way at the bottom) there is a bolded bullet point stating: “ * Tuition Remission/Tuition Exchange: A fee of $1,925 per semester, totaling $3,850 for the year, will be assessed on the bill.”
This bullet point has been here ever since she first checked online, so I’m curious if every student who applied for Duquesne’s TE has it or if this means she is one of the few who will be receiving it.
For those who applied for Duquesne TE, does your son or daughter’s portal say this underneath the “estimated payment plan” section?
I see that as well " * Tuition Remission/Tuition Exchange: A fee of $1,925 per semester, totaling $3,850 for the year, will be assessed on the bill."
I do think my daughter’s stats are on the cusp for it but I don’t think that means they’ve received it. It is a reassurance that they know we are TE applicants, I guess!
Hi, your daughter and mine seem to be in similar situations. My daughter was also denied TE at Pitt, received TE at Seton Hall, and is awaiting TE decision from Loyola MD (which may be her top if she gets it.) So far she has gotten into York, Pitt, Seton, Loyola MD, American (also denied TE), JMU, GMU, PSU, and waiting on VT, GWU, and Drexel. Phew…this is a wild ride.
Also waitlisted at Creighton.
That is interesting. I have not experienced that. I feel like the schools want to prioritize students who will attend regardless of whether they receive TE. However, that feels unrealistic as us parents (who have worked long and hard partially in hopes of using this benefit) are trying to pay for college for all of our kids!
Can you share where you found that. We’ve logged into my dependents student portal and I don’t see anything regarding payments
It’s in the financial aid notification, which you may not have received if you filled out FAFSA later than we have? no idea on those timelines. In the “Estimated Payment Plan” section…
I see that as well on my daughters portal.
Here’s hoping Duquesne comes out today! (Also waiting on Suffolk, Simmons and Marquette… do not expect to hear from Marquette yet)
Anyone hear anything from Duquesne yet? Word on the street said by the end of the week which is today.
