I don’t know if I’ll be able to find that comment since it was a while back, but I remember seeing it… I might be mistaken though, I’ll check in another source too
I asked Copilot about it, and this was the answer:
"UC Berkeley did not publicly announce in advance that their waitlist movement for the Class of 2028 would be extremely limited. However, discussions on forums like College Confidential indicate that students noticed the unusually low number of waitlist acceptances—only 26 students were admitted. Unlike NYU, which explicitly warned applicants about minimal waitlist movement this year, Berkeley did not issue a formal statement about it.
This lack of communication may have contributed to uncertainty among waitlisted students, as many were left waiting without clear expectations. If Berkeley follows a similar pattern this year, it’s possible that waitlist movement will be very small or nonexistent—but we won’t know for sure until they release decisions."
BUT AGAIN, IT’S ONLY AN AI THAT WAS WRONG ABOUT MANY, MANY THINGS IN THIS ADMISSION PROCESS, SO LET’S WAIT FOR AN OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OR SOMETHING.
HONESTLY, WITH EVERYTHING HAPPENING AROUND THE WORLD RIGHT NOW, I DON’T BELIEVE THAT THEY WON’T NEED WAITLISTED STUDENTS… Let’s think this through together (please share your thoughts): with wars, financial insecurity, political uncertainty, and everything else, many students and families might have preferred closer and more affordable options.
For example, UCLA, Columbia, and even Stanford (i think) have reportedly used their waitlists until today, despite having high yield rates. Also, many waitlists started accepting students even before the May 1st deadline, indicating a lower-than-expected yield for several schools (such as Babson College—a really yield-conscious institution with only a 3% waitlist acceptance rate, UCSD, etc.)."
I know that I might be deluding myself with false hopes and maybe setting myself up for disappointment, but it’s all I got for now… hahaha
i def agree with them probably needing to use the waitlist a bit more this year because of the political climate and the uncertainty regarding international students. i hope that the waitlist starts to move soon
Today I have called and got same answer. He said we will get some update by August 1st and will be very few movements. So better not to expect much and continue to pray if anybody has good luck to fit with that small amount of waitlist acceptance.
I think so. Since they are on a semester schedule (Fall starts in late August), if we don’t hear back by the end of next week, chances will be slim to none.
yeah… agree
are you sure that you talked to an AO though? just trying to have some hope still lol
No I believe he is student, but he said to me “ Let me check” and after few minutes he replied. But if you think logically time is moving, already we are in June. They will start class early than other UCS.
true… do you guys have an estimate of how many people might be accepted? I would say between 30-150 maybe? since they said “little movement” for a waitlist of usually 8000 people…
that might be around the right amount of people they’ll accept. i think they might go <50 this year
oh my god nothing today i’m actually tweaking out now ![]()

GOD SAME im genuinely going crazy ![]()
exactlyyy, pls release them!! IT DOES NOT TAKE THIS LONG
on god brah it was not like this last year n the number was diabolical ![]()
RIGHT!?!? this year has to be insane then but im going to continue to be delusional (hopeful) and PRAYYYYY they start using the waitlist RIGHT NOW
Initially I thought that they were going to take off a lot of people because of the political uncertainty but now that I think about it I think it will be the opposite. Think about it - what benefit do they have by accepting more people off the waitlist other than more money? Not much to be honest. Infact, it would actually go against them if they took in more people because thats just more hassle for them to deal with. If I was in charge of a college in this political climate then I certainly would not be wanting to take more people in as that would just mean more ways for things to go bad. I’d want to keep the incoming class underenrolled rather than overenrolled.
I think politics will play a much bigger role than people initially thought. Especially for schools that have a lot of student activities/involvement like Berkeley or UCLA
Just some food for thought
Guys, I really won’t speculate that much. I think the only thing that went wrong is that Tineocollegprep did a little t-roll-ing, which raised everyone’s expectation up by a whole level. At first he was portrayed as a very accurate source of info and generally he had a pretty good reputation…
has ur counselor said anything or asked yet?
no… I’ll check back on her maybe today or tmrw. I asked her on Monday, so I’m letting some time pass by before asking again hahaha
