UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Major, state and stats?

Do you think the Saturday wave will be bigger or no than the OOS wave today?

did all the kids from today’s oos wave come out this morning, or are there more coming out today?

My daughter’s in, OOS and LAS uncommitted! She wrote a banger of a LOCI. Cant believe I’ve stalked this forum for months and planned to run to pull her out of school if I saw she got an email — and today I slept through her getting the email, opening, and then texting furiously for about an hour to her dad and me
To the in-state dad, While this round has included mostly OOS, last year’s waitlist was almost exclusively in-state. it’s still harder to get in as an out-of-stater, and even if the overall 18% OOS cap doesn’t hit until 2025, they have to start lowering their numbers now because it’s an overall average. So should be even more selective this year than it was last year for out of state. We are willing and ready to pay full tuition and buy lots of swag to subsidize some more in-state kids for the other 82% of the student body! Here’s hoping it’s your kid and Stacie223! I’m rooting for you!

4.49 GPA (I don’t know what the CA GPA is or how that works), pre-psychology major
She got into UCSD, UCSB, and UCI regular decision but after visiting, turned those offers down.

Congrats! I think OOS is less selective at most of UCs. The IS student with 4.49 GPA would have very hard time to get into UCLA for the impacted major like psychology or any major in SSE.

Tons of In State with 4.6 and above got rejected by UCLA, I feel sorry for them.

Psychology is in the LS department. Thus, the major is not considered for admission off of the waitlist. Engineering admissions off of the waitlist however, does consider major which makes it harder to get off of the waitlist for it. My friend denied his spot at UCLA engineering for Berkeley. Hopefully that benefits those on the waitlist for SSE!! Best of luck to all of you.

Congratulations!! You should be very proud! Would you mind sharing whether you were an out of state applicant or instate and the major you applied for?

thank you!! i am OOS and my major was pre-sociology

Any OOS got off SSE?

Econ?

This is from a small private school where she took every single AP and honors class available and never made below an A, so I’m not sure why you’d think that. Every college recalculates GPA based on what each high school offers to make it an even playing ground, and they all consider rigor a great deal.
This is my third child going through this process. Sometimes it’s luck, sometimes it’s not.
I hope your student gets good news.

I don´t have kid this year, my older son is a junior bear. My nephew is class of 2028, he got many good waitlists offers, and commmited to Cal, he may change his mind if he gets off better school.

Most of UCLA freshman have a 4.0 or only one B in their high school transcript and many of them got into Standford and Ivy schools, the overall quality of students is same as Ivy admitted. I see lots of CA applicants with 4.6 above gpa got rejected here.

Lots of mixed emotions but I just declined my waitlist offer. Hoping the spot goes to another deserving applicant on the waitlist!

Congrats to all the OOS students (and their parents) who got in today!

@cyp238ress I hear ya. This very same thought about paying taxes for IS education crossed my mind earlier this week. What helped me put today’s OOS admissions wave into perspective is that students in the OOS and IS waitlist appear to be evaluated in two separate categories, or at least that’s how I understand it.

Staying hopeful as we wait for the next wave. May the admission odds be ever in our favor.

Hello, Gumbymom, Do you know if UCLA admissions pulled transcript from high schools for their waitlisted applicants in the past? All grades should be finalized next week, and admissons said their waitlist procedure is another round of evaluation.

Thanks!

UCLA asks waitlisted students to update their Senior year grades, but they will not ask for final transcripts until the student is admitted and enrolled.

The waitlist evaluation and selection is generally a continuation of the regular admission process, with consideration given to students’ original scores from application readers and whether their intended areas of study fill enrollment holes that year along with the waitlist statement and updated course/grades.

I asked this question to a UCLA AO on 4/13 and she confirmed that the grades are self reported only and they do understand that the grades could shift during the rest of academic year. This is true for waitlisted applicants. Just like what @Gumbymom clarified.
