how likely is UCLA going to send out wl acceptance before May like last year since the commitment deadline is delayed?
I think with the delay in the FA packages for so many schools, students may not enroll until they have all their financials settled and it could be close to that May 15th SIR date so I expect to see the waitlist admits starting after that date.
I see thank you
I wonder if any of those admits come from waitlist? But I guess they donāt specify.
Oh also @Gumbymom Iāve been meaning to ask. How do you feel about UCLA cutting their character count from 7000 to 3500 and their deadline to accept your waitlist offer from 7 to 3 days? Do you think itās because they want to give everyone on the waitlist a chance to get an offer therefore putting more pressure to SIR immediately? Iāve been thinking about this lately and Iām thinking itās because of either high volume of waitlist applicants or they want the process to go faster. Just wanted to know your personal thoughts.
They did not specify if some of the admits came off the waitlist.
Well the trend for the UC waitlists has been to eliminate the waitlist statement essay all together.
The large number of waitlisted students along with extra volume of having more statements to read is probably overwhelming admissions so they are trying to cut back on the extra work involved.
The 3 day acceptance window is probably due to the extended SIR deadline of May 15. Admissions wants get through the process faster so they do not run to far into the summer when making the offers since they are done in waves. The faster the accepts/declines, the faster they can move on to the next group of admits.
Okay, thatās what I was thinking too. Hoping for a good year for waitlisted people!
Did you receive Supplemental Review questionnaire in Feb.? UCLA only sent out SR to borderline applicants. If youāre in SR pool and got WL offer, your chance to get off wasilist is very slim.
The applicant who received SR has higher chance to get accepted comparing to those without SR in regular decision, but not in waitlist process. The waitlisted (without SR) has higher stats in general.
The supplemental review does not necessarily mean the applicant is a borderline admit. All it means is that admissions needed more information before making their decision.
Here are the reasons for a supplemental review:
ļ· Evidence of focus on an area of special talent which may have limited a studentās time to participate in a broader range of activities.
ļ· Evidence of character traits that imply a strong likelihood of making a significant contribution to campus life.
ļ· Evidence of significant academic achievement or the potential for academic achievement at the University in spite of extraordinary or compound disadvantage or learning difference, or physical disability or other unusual circumstances.
ļ· Evidence of significant improvement in the academic record accompanied by one or both of the following: reasons for the initial poor performance; and/or sustained and in-depth participation in educational outreach programs, which demonstrate the applicantās commitment to succeed academically within a challenging environment.
ļ· Evidence of relative lack of access to, counseling about, or support to take college preparatory, honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes or required college entrance examinations.
So no one can conclude that the chances for an admit off the waitlist because of the supplemental will be any less.
Partially correct, the majority of them is on the margin. All kids (who received SR) we know had lower GPA.
Hey! So, I had a 4.33 GPA when i submitted my application. Not sure if thatās low for UCLA standards but my friend with a 4.6 GPA also got the supplemental but got waitlisted like me. Another one of my friends got the supplemental but got in (donāt know his GPA). Where did you hear about this GPA thing? Also, iām pretty sure itās because I have āspecial circumstancesā which explains my ālowā GPA for my school.
I had lacked access to counseling, participated in UCLA EAOP as a result and I live pretty far away from my school which made involving myself in extracurriculars hard but I still improved despite all of that and I mentioned that in my supplemental.
Unless a poster works in admissions, they cannot know all the specific details about why an applicant received the supplemental.
As I stated above, the supplemental just means they wanted more information and in your specific case, they wanted to know about your āspecial circumstancesā. BTW a 4.33 GPA is not low by any standards.
I have seen several High GPA students get the supplemental due to either a specific EC or specific talent noted on the UC application.
Good luck and fingers crossed you have a positive outcome from the waitlist.
Thank you Gumbymom Iāll be sure to update you if I get good news!
I hope you get off the waitlist.

Just accept the offer from other school and opt in UCLA waitlist, nothing you can do than crossing your fingers. Lots of waitlisted with wgpa 4.6+.
Can anyone explain why waitlist moved last year so much compared to any other year ??
Many of the campuses were cautious with their admits numbers to avoid over enrolling so they probably targeted a lower number of admits initially assuming they could use the waitlist list to fill in the gaps.
The trend would be same or different this year. My kid is waitlisted at 5 colleges this year.
Yep, Iām SIRing to UCSB but hopefully theyāll consider my waitlist essay. I heard a rumor that they donāt read it but I think mines is good enough to get me in. Thank you!
