Finalist decisions are out. S24 is a finalist!
My D24 did not make it to next round Def disappointing.
@Katiekatie12345 congrats to you S24 and good luck!
Iām very sorry to hear this. Thank you for the well wishes. I hope your daughter ends up somewhere where she will be thrilled to attend!
Sorry to hear- My D24 either but I believe everything happens for a reason and even though it would be an amazing opportunity, she now doesnāt have to base where she goes specifically on this which I think sheād feel pressured to do.
Congrats to everyone who made it to the next round and good luck!
Congrats! Good luck as he continues through the process!
@chocolateandwine sorry to hear about your daughter. Hard to see the disappointment but also believe everything will work out!
Iām curious how everyoneās nominees, semifinalists and finalists did this year with UNC EA. My son was admitted yesterday into the Carolina Honors program. Heās still in the running for the M-C.
Nominee, not semi-finalist, accepted EA.
D24 OOS accepted, also with Honors Carolina. Expected due to ARP nomination, but still amazed considering how many kids were denied even though they had great stats.
For future readers, my son is in the finalist weekend for M-C now. He told me that he learned that everyone who makes finalist is automatically accepted to not only UNC-CH but also Honors Carolina. Not sure if this is official, but itās his understanding from what heās heard so far.
S24 was awarded the Morehead-Cain this evening!
Congratulations! That is amazing!
What was the final interview for MC?
What state are you from?
There was a 4-day virtual finalist weekend, held last weekend. Over 4 days, it was mostly presentations to the kids. But the evaluative pieces were a supervised group activity and a panel interview.
We are from the Midwest. Iād prefer not to share the exact state.
Iām surprised to hear it was virtual, for such an old and prestigious scholarship with a smaller subset of finalists Iād never have guessed it was not in person on campus.
Yes, I agree. Apparently, pre-COVID, the finalist round was in person. Now, instead, everyone who is offered the scholarship has to attend a mandatory, in-person āM-C Discovery Weekend,ā in early March. It seems to be a sell weekend since the decisions have been made.
I tried sending you a private message.
as a āfuture readerā, now trying to understand the timing process better for this year, thank you!
Hi! Has your child heard about semifinalist status? If I remember correctly from last year, your child should learn that tomorrow (Friday) around 5pm Eastern. Good luck!
If selected, then there will be a recorded video interview and then your student will be notified in Jan of finalist status.
I would love your insight! My daughter is OOS and has already been notified she is a semifinalist and has submitted the recorded video interview. Will she find out if she is a finalist at the same time as the in-state students?
