University of Florida Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

When will we hear about financial aid offers and the total cost of attending? Thinking by the end of the month but not sure if anyone else has heard anything.

No, if we were considering the student for admission but couldn’t admit them EA then they were deferred not denied. There isn’t a need to wait until regular decision if the student wants to try for an earlier answer.

Yes, financial aid offers will be out by the end of the month.

Will there be more merit scholarship coming out soon for intl rd?

Thank you, Melissa96! Can we assume that from here on out, waivers will be granted as they become available or will they do it in batches? I assume biggest movement after the May 1 commitment date. Thank you.

Yes, when we have some to give we will send them out

I believe that if the grandparent waiver comes through at some point, you will receive the higher of the two offers (the grandparent waiver) and not be able to stack the grandparent waiver with the $6,000 OOS scholarship because the latter is also a waiver against OOS tuition.

Yes and I’d be happy to make that swap!

So I forgot to upload proof of relation to grandparent for the waiver, would I still be able to upload this provided I have all other docs in order or is it too late atp?

@Melissa96 Hello! Just wanted to verify what I was seeing earlier in the thread. Should I not send a LOCI as a waitlisted student with application updates? As in it would serve no purpose or even lower chances of getting admitted? thanks

Aside from confirming wanting to be on the waitlist anything else would serve no purpose.

I am considering University of Florida for CS. It appears that UF doesn’t directly admit to CS and certain requirements may need to be met. I’m ok with that, but want to make sure that as long as I meet those requirements I will get the CS major?
It is not another application/selection process I’ll have to go through, correct? TIA!

Unless something just changed, I don’t think this is correct.

At UF, major isn’t considered in making admissions decisions for traditional enrollment, students can declare their major at preview and then then need to follow the tracking requirements to stay in the major.

Thank you, I understand that means if I chose to go with UF, I only need to make sure that I don’t get kicked out of my major/school for not meeting track requirements.

Hi again! With the announcement that Florida may amend the Grandparent waiver, do you have any info on whether this will impact the currently admitted students? Or a timeline for when the new requirement might take effect? I am thankful my parents have lived in Florida a long time, but I was just wondering.

No idea currently - when the legislature is in session lots of things are proposed.

Just because I always post these, the Board of Trustees met today and there were some slides about admissions. You can view the whole presentation HERE (day 1, morning, starting at minute 2:29).

It will be interesting to see how these admit numbers line up with their student yield for enrollment numbers.

As parents with kids who are enrolled in Magnet High Schools where 1/3 to 1/2 of students are considered high performing - we are also being advised to have our kids apply to anywhere from 15-20+ schools, with around 1/4+ as Reach, 1/2+ as Target, and 1/4- as ā€œsafetyā€ schools.

To us, this seems to suggest there’s going to be a lot of students in the high performing group (but perhaps not elite level) which are encouraged to apply to 10-15+ schools in the 10-30 (maybe T40) tier…indicating a lot more overlapping on applications as well as admissions offers may go on.

As high performing students determine their priorities via general rankings, college/major rankings, COA, Geographic/Climate/Campus or overall ā€œVibe/Fitā€, and pick to attend the 1 out of 8 or 10 or 12 or 15 schools they’ve been admitted to, I suspect the differential between ā€˜Admitted Students’ metrics and ā€˜Enrolled Student’ metrics will have a divergence which increases the farther the school is from the ā€˜top rankings’ or as the relative class size increases. Which is to say to other parents and to kids, when looking at numbers its important to understand what they actually mean and don’t write yourself out of contention in applying just because you don’t hit the mid range of admitted students from the prior year…look at the range of range of the students which actually enrolled.

That said, UF is a comparative bargain in terms of COA for OOS as well so I’d guess that will have some influence on the high performing students who got in to multiple schools in the same ranking cohort, but the schools are not in the same COA range.

In recent years, overall yield has been in the mid- to low 40% range from what I remember, declining slightly as the number of OOS applicants has increased dramatically. In-state yield is very high. OOS has been lower but that could change.
