Deferred OOS— anyone know the acceptance rate for deferred?

My intuition is deferred have strong chances at UIUC. Here’s why:-

  1. They don’t mass defer, unlike many schools; look at the mass rejections, even reported on CC, which are typically all high stats, and you don’t see this on other college threads.
  2. UIUC doesn’t need mid-term grades or any other details; they have already considered your application as strong enough for continued evaluation against RD pool.
  3. I doubt RD pool is going to be as competitive.

Decision comes in less than 4 weeks, I have a feeling that most deferred folks here will go through.

Thank you for your kind words. I was definitely feeling hopeless about the deferral but this makes me feel a lot better

We are in this together! A lot of high stat people with multiple research and internships from a very selective school in my district all got rejected. They see something in us

Yes, psychology, OOS

Accepted - Intl student for CompSc + Physics program at Grainger!! First acceptance after a string of deferrals (UMich, GA Tech, UChi) so this is sweet

Let stuff calm down and then ask. I think you’ll get a lot of responses.

Again, anybody who applied Test optional get in?

Daughter is in! In state, test optional, 4.85 weighted gpa, college of ACES first choice major, lots of extra curriculars, varsity sports, had been rejected at Wisconsin a few days ago, so this is a nice boost for her.

Not sure, but as per CDS, test scores are “considered” factor, not important or very-important. In Fall 2023 ~60% enrolled applicants submitted scores.
I believe if there’s a strong rigor (highest available at your school) and grades, test optional won’t hurt.

OOS DS rejected CS UIUC. Small private school. Cambridge AICE diploma. 5 APs, 11 college courses (over and above
school curriculum), school GPA UW 4.22 college transcript GPA 4.00 SAT 1600,one attempt, NMSF. National ranking/awards in NAQT quiz bowl.
National Science Foundation grant for Virtual reality club (Founder. 3 local schools have already implemented the VR curriculum developed
by the club this academic year) . First high schooler to publish solo authored research in journal
for undergraduate thesis housed at Duke. Another solo research paper in computational lingusitics at NHSJS.
theatre AZ seal of arts (expected). AIME 2x; At school level has leaderships in 4 clubs
including VR club, theatre,NHS,Stugo.

CS acceptances to date include: ASU,Umich, and GTech. happy for the choices! We now truly understand when people say that there no guarantees in CS admissions! Stupidly thought DS will get UIUC CS. Good luck to others!

Anyone knows how to download acceptance letter. My son got accepted to Grainger in SeD, he can see acceptance but did not see any link on myillini to download acceptance letter. Thanks.

Sorry to hear
have you considered that perhaps they thought he would choose to go to a better school with those qualifications, regardless of their decision?

EC lists might be too much for AO to digest, I am a CS person, yet I can barely understand half of what you are talking about. Gatech is hell of a good CS school, not much difference where your son goes for college in the long run.

That could also be true. Could also be the number of AP courses , no body knows.

That is the way we are coping so far. But who is really better than UIUC in CS, though? They are the top of the tree is’nt it? We even did a campus visit last year. Unless it happens to oneself, it is very hard to appreciate that the demand side (schools) have taste and fit requirements. Nonetheless, the base line uncertainty is gone and anything we get is a bonus. This feeling of having options makes for a relaxed atmosphere at home.

It’s great to have options. In the long run, though, he will determine his future, more than the difference between any of those schools.

Enjoy the time before he leaves for university.

I can easily name 4, MIT, Stanford, CMU and UC Berkeley. UIUC was in top 5 in the past, not sure if it is still there.
