In years past, they turned around decisions rapidly and early (as soon as early October). I think they found themselves with an unpleasantly low yield because tons of kids were applying just to “get in somewhere early” with no actual intention of attending. They clearly are trying to change that in a process that seems to have started last year (when it appears that notifications started in early December).
Long-winded way of saying that nobody knows because they are changing their process from what it had been.
Any high admit school yield will be low and the applications are relatively steady, I’m not sure it’s about anything there. It’s certainly less work on admissions to get a big pile and then admit at one time than rolling. I also have heard it’s a bit about housing which isn’t robust and letting the returning students apply Dec 1 and then admit and have the new student admits register. Because of the early housing registration you get a lot of the students you reference putting in for housing on Dec 1 then waiting until June to cancel - this gives them an easier idea of how much interest there is from returning students for on-campus housing.
But for housing reasons UO should release relatively soon - they’ve been Dec 1 for awhile on new student housing registration for a reason. Would be unlikely to wait.
Also especially for OOS UO tends to release an early scholarship offer on grades or whatever the criteria is and then in some cases bump that up. It’s less impactful to receive 1.0 in August and then 2.0 in March then compressing that excitement.
Has anyone noticed anything different about their portal? I can’t recall exactly what the portal page looked like, but I thought there was a box and now that box is missing? Anyone else?
My DD applied for architecture. Her portal changed from major: architecture to say something like major: pending departmental approval. So they are definitely doing something in admissions.
I have no specific knowledge of Oregon but for many schools with Architecture programs, the applicant first needs to pass the admission standards of the school and then it is passed along to the Arch department along with the portfolio (if one is required/submitted) for their review for acceptance.
Trying to apply rational thinking here lol. I was hoping to hear positive news Friday because the finals I’m studying for have been pretty stressful this weekend and good news would provide temporary relief, I think. Most universities are finishing up their semesters this week if they haven’t already done so, I checked a few calendars. I would think people would be wanting to get to their vacations. I also looked at the business offices at some schools are open through Wednesday soI am thinking that we would get decisions before everyone leaves for vacation. Maybe I am completely wrong and none of this is correct. I’m just distracting myself before I pick up my AP text again.
