Someone posted a SC GPA calculation chart; you may find it if you google. I took all core classes from freshman through junior year and assigned points based on the chart. The part I was unsure about was that here in PA, our school uses letter grades only; on the SC chart every score was given a point value (so, 90 would be a 4, 95 would be a 4.5, etc). Since we just have A, B, etc. I took the middle number for each grade. I got a 4.6 when I added all up and divided by courses.
In the same boat, needing at least $10K of merit. Know we are getting a deferral but should have a good chance of getting into Sport Management RD. Four other good options but UTK and USC top of the list.
sorry I had calculated today. We received an email that itâs tomorrow afternoon.
Why sure of a deferral?
Track record from last year. 1250 SAT, 4.0 weighted (her school with extra point for honors and APs), typical ECs, captain state champ team x2 years, job. Would be pleasantly surprised/shocked if admitted with merit EA⊠only exception is her major isnât as hard to get into.
Are you saying if youâre accepted to UTK in March then you are not eligible for the merit scholarships that are posted on the website? I would think if you are accepted and your GPA and test scores fall in the range of the ones posted on the website that you would still be eligible. My son was deferred yesterday however he has the test scores and the GPA for the volunteer merit scholarships posted but was deferred. I would hate to see that he gets accepted in March but yet he doesnât receive the scholarships that those who were accepted EA.
Not sure I would gmail your admission counselor to make sure because I know different university does their scholarship differently.
I donât believe that being accepted in March automatically makes a student ineligible for merit scholarships. From my understanding, merit scholarships at UTK are based on GPA and test scores, not solely on Early Action acceptance. While some awards may be reviewed earlier for EA applicants, deferred students who are later admitted can still be considered if they meet the posted criteria.
Does anybody know if they recalculate core GPA for in-state too? I figured it was just the raw number but that would make a huge difference because it would eliminate all the required CP classes. (PE and such)
Thank you! I was just clarifying what someone said earlier in this post. But I did go look at the website and as long as you apply by December 15, you are eligible. Does not matter if you are deferred and then accepted.
Ok. Your prior post alluded to that youâre not eligible, which is why I asked.
Should TO expect deferral?
expect to be accepted
test optional w/ 4.3? OOS
You think my son should expect to be accepted for that?
yeah those are good stats
everything will be fine, today will be a good day!
Not sure w/ him to be honest⊠Iâd imagine 20+ kids from his large public school applied, which doesnât help. Easy major helps though.
When you are figuring out gpa you are including Fall 2025 mid semester report grades correct? Thank you!
What? We do not have fall semester grades yet, semester hasnât ended.
