University of South Carolina Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

My dd got into UGA out of state so thinking she should be okay here but college admissions has gotten so weird we are just waiting for something to go sideways. Maybe it will be today she gets thrown a curveball. We will see in a few hours!

OOS UGA admit is scared? We’re cooked here.

Nah…just an eternal pessimist :joy:

I believe I’m the only person applying from my school and an easy major so hopefully some good news.

OOS? Does it hurt that 20+ ppl from same large school (3,500 ish person school) applying? Especially when you’re more competitive then most but not all applicants, but more competitive then all applicants to same major.

And what major?

im OOS, Early Education

What state has nobody applying to USC! Need to move there ASAP!

Also, how do you know its easy?/

I suspect it does hurt the more people from your school apply. More reason to defer everyone so they can sort them out later, but that’s just a guess on my part. No one can know any of this until the decisions are released later today. Only about 4 hours to go.

Would it help if you’re a better applicant then most though?

Like I said, I have no idea. No one knows the answers to these questions other than the AO at UofSC, of which I am not one.

best way to approach admissions even with uncertainty is confidence, I do believe it would be tougher to get in if you have 20 plus people applying from the same school because you are getting compared to each other. Though I would not worry, everything will be fine!

in state SC, the admissions rate is significantly higher.

I agree, but scared.

I do think SC yield protects. Pretty sure it happened to my older child 2 years ago… so you never know… and yes, the process is weird! They also accept by major… so, there is that too!

our HS does mid semester grade reports that are submitted to colleges

So they only admit students they think will really go there?

We got generous merit and my son is OOS and did not submit SAT scores. Each year is different, but I saw a lot of generous merit for OOS.

Popping in to say good luck to you all. My son is in the Business School and he was an EA admit. OOS. It all works out. He loves USC and is thriving. Just to note that he did not get merit with his acceptance but did get about 11K a year later when merit was released. Don’t stress if you don’t see it in your initial acceptance there is still hope.

Stats for those who received merit above $10K last year?
