Is business significantly harder than most majors? Will it matter that my son applied for CIC?
Meaning, will it help with his admission.
I hope so, but also not expecting it. Last year, when they sent out the email telling us when to expect the EA decisions, they told us that only the highest academic applicants would be accepted and to expect a lot of deferrals. Hopefully weâll get an indication one way or another in a similar email this year.
Do you know when theyâll start releasing decisions? Mid December is a little vague.
Last year we got an email a few days before. They released on Dec 17 (if I remember correctly). So, expecting similar this year.
Do you believe there was overwhelm last year and theyâre more prepared now? My son is quite nervous. He has a 4.31 GPA with loaded extracurriculars and a fantastic essay. He was admitted to Pitt, Penn State (main campus/fall), and Delaware (w/10k)
I have no idea. My S25 was accepted in EA with a merit scholarship. I donât remember what his SC W GPA was (itâs higher than what we use) but his w gpa was 4.37 (or something like that) UW GPA was 3.98. He had 10 APs, 3DE and a 32 ACT (33 w/o science). He ended up going to U of Florida.
Understandable he got EA w/ merit if he goes to UF. Only top of the top applicants get EA w/ merit aid. We were told that my sons weighted GPA is his SC gpa, were you told otherwise?
Last year I found this Grading Scale & GPA Calculator | Abbeville High School
thatâs how SC calculates GPA. My sonâs SC WGPA was 4.75. Your son is very competitive for USC. If he submitted test scores, I think he has a great shot at being accepted EA. But again, I have no idea. Just a parent who obsessed last year
crossing my fingers for my S26.
What if your HS only provides letter grades and not numbers? Would an a translate to an 85 on that scale? What about an A-? Any idea how USC would deal with that?
I donât know, just guessing. Our HS only uses letter grades, also. When I calculated, I just used the middle/average number. It got me close enough to what I thought his SC GPA would be. At that point, itâs splitting hairs.
Unfortunately no test scores, but loaded well rounded ECâs that fit his intended major very very well.
Do you think that means anything?
If it helps anyone, my son goes to South Carolina, he got in with a 3.8W GPA, no test scores, oos. I will say this though; they defer pretty much everyone unless you have very very good stats. They over admitted this year I know that so idk if anything will change. If you get deferred, do not lose hope. They accept a ton of people in the second wave, and no joke pretty much everyone gets off the waitlist.
Did he get admitted last year?
Would you say a 4.3 with great essay and high stats would be EA worthy?
Can I ask which major? I thought the Common Data Set shows hardly anyone gets off the WL-so interesting to hear that maybe thatâs not accurate.
I thought major didnât matter for admission?
Not for South Carolina. The schools I know of that are major blind are Georgia and Ohio State I think.
So USC does consider?
