University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Yep. No changes to speak of. The only small things that changed at all for us was the deferral language was missing for a short while and the tours changed from Admitted to Campus. And we got one additional Cohort Program Application added to Just For Us tab.

FWIW
my daughter who was RD at USC (she missed the EA date by a week
ugh) just got her acceptance and RD wasn’t supposed to be out until mid-March. Crazy!

S24 EA,OOS, Deferred: So, does anyone know if the UTK EA was truly only stats-based and not holistic app eval, as advertised? If so, they should DEFINITELY advise applicants of that. Just say, " hey, if you apply EA it’s only stats-based. If you wait for RD, it’ll be holistic." If that were the case, we would’ve waited and built an even stronger app with the extra time. At this pt, UTK should know what’s going on and give a date, time for release. Many other schools are very squared-away in that regard (UF, FSU, UGA).

I totally agree with everything you said here. We would have waited for RD too.

I can’t speak for this years EA acceptance reasonings, however I will share that last year for EA many students from my sons class who had much higher stats then he did, were deferred. He was accepted first round. With that being said, they didn’t just go by stat based applications. This year, possibly a different story but can’t say for sure?

S24 applied more than 5 months ago and still don’t have a decision or a date to make a decision. That seems wrong on many levels. He has 12 other options to move on, but would appreciate some closure from UTK.

If he gets accepted and decides not to attend, we’ll be sure to pay-it-forward and advise AO that we’ll respond with our decision on enrollment some time in late Spring.

Daughter waitlisted as well from South Carolina - no changes to our UTK portal

They may not necessarily have known that would be the case this year, but got such a huge influx of (good) applications so had to make it stats only for first round in the interest of time. I will say they have been much more communicative and accepting of new materials for those deferred, so I do think they have tried to make up for it to let those deferred applicants strengthen their apps. Other schools my DD was deferred from, definitely not the case (SC, VT, PSU). Now if they continue to get such a huge amount of EA applications, they may very well start messaging that way in the future. I give them the benefit of the doubt on this year considering they said they got 30% more applications (in EA, not sure about RD). Good luck!

What is this hack that you mention? Deferred and anxiously waiting to hear back.

We have a slate id that starts with 76
as well and on the portal is says application status: blank
Anyone else?

No, our Slate id starts with 97 and says application status: Awaiting Decision. Ours has never blanked out, always stayed the same. We seem to be in the minority though.

My son is a current sophomore at Auburn and I have a daughter that is a junior in high school planning to apply to multiple schools in the south next year
I did find with my son two years ago, he was admitted early but his peers that alternatively went TO or had slightly below their midrange sat/act were deferred and later admitted. I am curious how much of this is the case still at these schools
we’ve advised our daugher to place significant emphasis on the SATs, since our anecdotal evidence seems to show they are putting a lot more emphasis on scores. I am hopeful that the although the schools may not be completely transparent about the process, forums like this with parents who are willing to share will be so helpful for those of us navigating in the future. It is such a blurry time in admissions! Thank you and good luck to all of your children!

I agree I believe U TK was solely driven by SAT for EA this year . Our students SAT does not match their rank / GPA etc and we were deferred . They are our safety school so we were surprised . We are ranked 6% in our class and there is no way that should have been a deferment .

I believe this is what happened with me too, my sat didn’t match my gpa at all but I also really believe I am a terrible test taker.

Is everyone still getting this message when signing up for an admitted students tour?

I am and I think some others were on Friday. I honestly wouldn’t worry about it I think it was just their fix to try and get less tour sign ups because of the hack

The email did send major in it

Are you using the link that Shah shared or just using the tours that option that your portal shows?

I searched “UTK admitted students tour” and clicked “Admitted student registration” on the website. When I click submit I still receive the email with admitted major
