Thanks for the info. We did not get receive a response, so I’m wondering if it went to spam. Honors College is sending the email again.
Is she at MPHS? We were zoned for there! Similar situation 6 years ago with my oldest child. @Alex_G
Hello - Question about scholarships. My OOS senior had a $13K Volunteer Scholarship listed on his initial acceptance letter, in mid-December. Today he received a letter stating he received the TN Explore Scholarship for $13K. Does anyone have any insight into if this is just a reiteration of the earlier scholarship he received or a second scholarship for the same amount? Any insight would be appreciated. TIA!
My daughter received the exact same thing. She later received an email explaining that the letter was in error and that her original award, volunteer, was the correct scholarship and amount. If you look on the website, the TN explorer is not for that amount nor can it be combined with volunteer. Maybe you senior’s correction letter went to spam?
Thank you, just checked in email and found the correction letter!
I believe same value/year - just a different name. We got the same notification but ours were the opposite (Dec = TN Explore, now = Volunteer).
Do we think anyone will get off the waitlist? My son has scholarships at South Carolina and Indiana Kelly and other schools
I doubt until after May 1. I think they will probably pull first from in state, and if need be pull from highest SAT on down the list. Just my thoughts!
Wish they would look at gpa and ec too . My son has a higher gpa than others admitted from Hs and Sat not that much lower
It’s like we are telling kids your score means more than getting all A’s in honors all four years and captain of two varsity sports at the same . Guess we all should focus on Sat , kind of sad .
I don’t think they’ll just look at SAT’s or GPA alone as it may also depend on other variables such as what programs have slots open etc.
I agree that the SAT and ACT shouldn’t be the only factor but GPA’s have to be looked at closely b/c some schools have significantly more grade inflation than others. However, I imagine that analysis was done before final decisions came out.
If a student is making straight As in honors courses but gets a low SAT score, the problem is not that the SAT was considered. The problem is with how the high school graded.
We are at a rigorous school and sat was in top 75 percent . All ap’s and honors
Families also pay 10k for Sat prep looking back should have choose that option . We did some prep
The 75th percentile for the SAT is around a 1200. Someone with straight As in honors and AP courses at a rigorous high school should have a higher score. This sounds like grade inflation, which is all too common.
Not true , the kids accepted at our hs had below a 4.0 and 1300 score ,
My son had a 4.3 and our hs is in top 50 in state it doesn’t inflate grades .
Same for me! I think SAT is fine to use when looking at the whole student, but should not be used as the pretty much the only thing.
There is a big difference between a 1290 and a 1200.
Again, someone with straight As in Honors & AP courses in a rigorous high school should have higher than a low 1200 SAT.
VERY few US high schools can say they don’t inflate grades.
What factors would make your student would take UTK off a waitlist over a direct admit to Kelley?
He wants to go to UTK it’s his first choice.
