University of Tennessee Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

I was just merely pointing out that they messed up their yield very badly this year. Of course they’re supposed to fill the open seats. Of course it’s good news when someone that wants to go to that school gets off the waitlist.

Most schools are going to the waitlist likely because of the FASFA. Another reason is the volume of applications being sent in by each student. Everybody wants the top students, but not everyone’s going to get the top students. However, these two schools in particular really missed the mark. Hopefully they can figure out what went wrong and learn from it for next year.

If most of the best students apply to > 20 colleges again next admissions cycle then we are going to see something similar. And it’s so unpredictable that I think it’s highly likely that next year‘s seniors will be applying to possibly even more schools that this year’s class. So the schools like Tennessee have to accept the most qualified in paper but because kids are applying to 1 million schools that means that schools are probably going to ultimately waitlist a lot of kids. There’s not much they can do as long as students are applying to so many schools. It’s a huge cycle.

For the record, I applied to less than 5 but I knew that I could not afford to go out of state, and also I couldn’t afford that many admissions, application fees.

I was gonna say the SAME thing… child got the merit off waitlist that should have been granted in December. NUTTY year indeed!

All of us warned this would happen. TCU is doing this as well. Seriously messed up.

I just got off the waitlist tonight. I’m not going. I’ve already enrolled, got my room, my schedule, been talking to my roommate, and signed up for orientation at Stetson University…with a full tuition scholarship.
I absolutely loved UTK when I visited, could really see myself as a Vol, but I moved on to a school that loved me from the instant they read my application and can’t wait to start in August!

Congratulations to you! We have a friend in the same boat—she accepted her spot at VT and just got off UTK waitlist LAST WEEK! Craziness. Sadly, we really loved UTK for my rising senior daughter (as did she) when we visited, but now she won’t even apply there after watching what her older friends (who applied there this year) went through. She has another school she really loves that is a safety and won’t even bother with UTK…I’m hoping she at least thinks it through and possibly changes her mind. But then I think–why?!?—I doubt this process will be rectified by November.
