Two of my D’s roommates are CS and they seem to be doing really well. They’ve had no problems finding internships and are having a good time.
Congratulations! Just a comment that my understanding is that at U of Utah, the WUE is not automatically given. I believe many, many students get it, but it’s considered a merit award and not automatic (unlike other schools in the WUE).

My son is in the CS program and would like to do an internship this summer. Do you have any suggestions for how to make that search successful? He’s only a freshman (but has enough college credits to be a junior - I’m not sure if that makes any difference).

My son also is a kinesiology and exercise science major! 
I’d suggest he starts with attending the STEM Career Fair Bootcamp on the 29th and then the Career Fair. It is hard for first year students to land internships because they lack CS skills, but if your son has taken upper level courses he should be fine.

Adding on to the earlier response. Make sure his resume highlights the classes he has taken. Don’t specifically state he is a freshman. Then send out as many resumes as possible. Hit the job boards and everything.

S24 admitted Pre-Enviro & sustainable studies. He received text stating there was a status update. No email. We are OOS and hopeful to be granted WUE scholarship.

Is the notification somewhere in the portal?
No. The scholarship notification is not in the portal. S24 got an email with scholarship notification, with WUE discount of at least 14k/year for 8 semesters.
The email also said:
“Note: official WUE notifications are included in admit packets from the Office of Admissions and sent via postal mail.”
We have not received anything via postal mail yet - but we should be getting an admit packet soon.
Postal mail rehashes the email about the WUE scholarship. I have received the acceptance packet.

If you don’t receive a notification then (unless it is in spam or your email address hasn’t been entered correctly) it is almost certainly because you didn’t receive a merit award. Only awardees are notified. Every year there are plenty of people who assume they will get something and are disappointed when they don’t: apart from WUE, there are very limited numbers of the other OOS merit awards (especially compared to pre-2020) and many great students miss out.
It would be great for future applicants if awardees could give some idea of their stats since the merit cutoffs appear to be purely stats-based (AFAIK just UW GPA, SAT/ACT score and course rigor, i.e. number/score for APs).

My daughter got her packet on Tuesday (east coast). We obviously aren’t WUE eligible. Hoping for some merit but not holding breath.

Agree, this would be very helpful, esp. for uwGPA. It looks like test scores are not considered anymore - website only lists:
- Based on unweighted, cumulative GPA at the time of application.
- Course rigor considered
ETA: This is for the named merit awards; WUE appears to have different criteria.
And importantly, WUE notifications may be on a different timing and other merit notifications seemingly haven’t been sent out because the website says that:
For incoming freshmen students admitted for the Fall 2024 semester, eligible recipients of the WUE Tuition Discount were notified of their status as part of their admit notification from the Office of Admissions. If there are questions about a WUE Tuition Discount recipient’s status, then please reach out to the Office of Admissions at admissions@utah.edu or (801) 581-8761.
Incoming freshmen merit scholarship notifications will be sent to an eligible recipient’s email beginning February 1, 2024. Please refer to the full list of scholarships here.
