University of Washington Seattle Waitlist 2024

I wouldn’t lose hope completely. This is probably true for out of state students, which will open up spots if they decline their offers. There are still students that have been admitted to UW in state but are choosing other schools, such as western. Also, if students in state are admitted to better schools (such as ivies) they will probably go to those schools instead

Hello! For those that submitted an appeal, when did you send it in and what did you talk about? How long did it take for them to get back with your decision? Thank you!

I sent my appeal in on March 9th but had to resubmit it on the 11th due to a technical error on their end. I talked about personal reasons that made me unable to adequately prepare for the SAT, college apps, etc. as well as why I need to go to uw instead of other schools. I heard back yesterday (March 30th) and my appeal was denied. As of right now, I believe everyone that has appealed has had their appeal denied. So, if you are waitlisted you still have a shot at getting in but I’m not sure what your chances are of getting in by appealing.

i believe a few out of state have been accepted from the waitlist after appealing (referring from a post). some out of state that did not appeal also got accepted from the waitlist. it seems like they are working on the out of state right now due to COVID-19.

My son was accepted from waitlist too. He is OOS (Ga) and was accepted without an appeal. After reading this thread sounds like they are trying to up their OOS numbers (probably bc of this pandemic). He received an email on the 26th that his admission status was updated and then got one about financial aid last night (31st). You had to login on the portal to view (accept) the FA letter.
He wants to go to the PNW for school and In his mind he was set to accept the offer from Univ of Oregon so this complicates things (although he’s excited). Since we’re from the other side of the country any thoughts on advantages or disadvantages to UO vs UW? We know UW is a “better school” but that’s not always the only consideration. We’ve visited both schools and they’re different. (Been 2 yrs since we’ve been to UW, in Oregon 3 weeks ago) He wants to study polysci/law. Thx! Congrats to everyone and good luck.

I am getting very anxious after being waitlisted for statistics and pre-health sciences.
My stats are above average for Washington and knowing that OOS people are hearing back but I am not is very nerve wrecking,

I know how you feel. My son applied and did not get in to UGA (in state for us) and a lot of OOS kids with much lower creds do. It’s a numbers game and it stinks!

I see a few folks mentioning their majors who seem to be thinking they are waitlisted for the major they applied to. You need to understand if your major is considered an open major or a capacity-constrained major.
If you applied to a capacity-constrained major and were waitlisted, you were denied Freshman Direct Admission.
This means you will have to follow the Standard admission process and apply once you meet the prerequisites (generally after your sophomore year).

From UW admissions: Students admitted off the waitlist are not eligible for direct to major admission (i.e. business, computer science) or direct to college (engineering) admission.

@Mgkarlsvik Thank you for the information!

Has anyone got off the waitlist with/without submitting an appeal yet (instate applicants)? Thank you

how do you know when your appeal is not approved? do they send an email? what does the email say?

@hkstudent UW admissions sends an email saying that they were unable to approve your appeal.

Hey guys!! How long does it take for you to hear back if your appeal is approved or not??

@njc524 oh thanks for the reply!! they sent me an email asking for additional info but didn’t state if my appeal is approved or not… is that a good news or not?

Hey! I believe it’s a good news. May I know how long did it take for u to hear back since to submitted the appeal? Thanks!!!

@wpcici sure! i submitted my appeal on 20/3 and they sent a confirmation email on 21/3, and i received that email on 1/4 so it was around 2 weeks  are you also waiting for the decision?

Yup! I submitted the appeal on March 31 and I’m still waiting for the decision. I see that many oos from California are getting admitted off the waitlist since last week… so I’m a little worried. I’m also from Cali.

@wcpici I also submitted the appeal sometime that week as well! Are you an instate applicant? I wish you all the best for the appeal :)!

Thanks!! I’m oos from California.
