My students who applied for Plan II were accepted tonight, maybe 1.5 hours after the majors were announced. All were auto admits. I didn’t have any non-autos apply for P2.

I would strongly consider an appeal for this one.

Were both decisions today? Any time estimate for Turing if so? Same time as major? Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words. This rejection humbled him and showed that college admission is not easy and very unpredictable. We are blessed to have such great options, especially Stanford. His brother is a sophomore at Stanford doing CS and it is also his dream school. It’ll be easy for our family to have both boys there.

My daughter is in the same boat. She is crushed. Didn’t get her CS major but was admitted to COLA. In state, 105.3 weighted GPA, 2nd in her class, 11APs, 1540 SAT, 36 ACT, National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, athlete. She has awards and internships in CS and has full ride offers to UTD and U of Tulsa. But now that she didn’t get into CS at UT, she is wondering if she has a chance at any of her reach schools. The wait until March will be long.

yes, both came out today.

Hi!! Instate Auto admit here. admitted. undeclared.

1 major choice: Electrical and computer engineering
2nd major choice: computer science
-Plans to minor in spanish with hopes of being an immigration lawyer.

Ultimately I knew UT would be the best option for me due to my aspirations for law, the school is in the capital, and engineering, ranked #7 for my major. But also the fact that not only my dad and older sister are alumni, but I love the environment I was greeted with back in June when I’d toured.

-Many leadership EC’S (student council, varsity sports, Girls Who Code, learning coding languages on the side)
-Worked to save for college for about 9 months
-over 200 volunteering hours
-Texas First Scholar recipient
-Test optional
-60+ Community credit hours (geared towards my major specifically)
-Associates of Science
-Early graduate from high school (graduated in 3 years)
-Childhood history with software programs and building computers but did not indicate that in my application because I didn’t think that was allowed.

-Was in extensive contact with engineering recruitments and toured the school
-Received recommendation letters from high school chemistry and English teacher

I didn’t realize just how important test scores were until it was too late. I decided to graduate during the end of my second semester of my sophomore year(last year (sophomore year) by that time it was practically too late to fit into my schedule. Also, one thing I know that my application was lacking for my particular majors were extracurriculars geared more towards engineering, but what else? Who I chose for my reqs? My lack of test scores?

Please honestly respond with why you believe I didn’t get in and if I should or shouldn’t appeal. If I should, what I should include in my essay??

I do want to take a minute to cool off before submitting the appeal because I know im very emotional right now.

(College counselors, if any, pls respond)

Can I ask why computer engineering if you wanna be a lawyer? Maybe the disconnect between your goals was the reason. UT is big on fit to major. If you wanna appeal, make sure you can connect those. Also any new info like awards would be helpful.

If law school is your goal, maybe the government or a comm major would be better suited for you. And you could still do a cs minor. You don’t have to give up on UT yet since your auto.

I never indicated in my initial application that I want to be a lawyer, and lately law schools have been liking potential law students that come in with STEM backgrounds. I’m a very versatile person, so my strengths lie with STEM. Computers have always been a passion of mine since grade school, and so have languages, hence the spanish, but recently my passions have also included law.

UT is big on fit to major. Maybe you can appeal with another essay on why you want to do ECE undergrad and then law. Unless the law degree is somewhat related to ECE, it would be a seen as a waste to offer the spot to someone who will not be using that degree in future.

Thank you. We may give it a try. Looking at the kid working so hard improving the ranking from nowhere in the first quarter all the way to 7% (with lots of time on EC and Art in the meanwhile) and still couldn’t get in is heartbroken.

I wouldn’t call it a waste since I will be working as an engineer and the skills I obtain from that will most certainly not go to waste. There are people that possess two completely different careers, like doctors who are also law students.

Accepted OOS to Turing Scholars!!

My son (admitted to MechE) just had his engineering honors application updated to ā€œdeferredā€. Did anyone got engineering honors decision today? I wonder if many students got deferred for honors.

Sorry, didn’t see this, I hope things are going well for your student. One of my favorite parts is the 40A manual, where they teach students what attire names look like (business casual, business, etc) and show photos.

Just curious if anyone knows anyone who got in with an Urban Studies major?
