I apologize if I came across as rude. I can certainly understand the passion and any education is never a waste. But if you did mention in your application that your ultimate goal is law, then it may seem that you may not utilize ur ECE degree to its full benefit, unless you can tie it all together. The AO might think it is better to admit you to a more direct undergrad path for law. I am not an AO so take it for what it’s worth.

No dont worry I didn’t take it as rude but honest and I like that. I understand regarding my direct degree for law, but I’ve always tried to express myself as a versatile applicant. I guess UT doesnt like that… I just want to gather opinions on why people think I didnt get my intended majors so I can possibly divvy up a stellar appeal essay

Can you clarify? You were admitted to UT Austin but as an undeclared major?

Auto admit who didn’t receive their first nor second choice major

1560 SAT, Top 3%, 102.3 WGPA, State/Regional/National Debate Awards, Student Body President, NHS VP, all 5s on AP Exams, In state.

Rejected from McCombs.

My son received exact same letter. I assume Fine Arts kids have all submitted portfolios and I bet that just takes a little more time to evaluate them all. At least you were not rejected, just have to wait a little longer, which is frustrating, I know.

That isn’t really a deferral, they just haven’t had the time to go through all the portfolio submissions is my guess. You are likely just actively still being considered. My son received same info for SDCT

i just got rejected too with very high stats and starting my own successful business’s. i was so feeling like an acceptance letter was coming my way, but nope. i applied regular decision and was so surprised to get a decision today. I am also from out of state. it just feels so disappointing!

Son rejected OOS for CS or CSB- 4.4 Weighted GPA, All 5’s for AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP CS and AP CS Principles, 5 Dual Enrollment CS courses, good CS related internships, 1520 SAT (790 Math). Seeing the stats of in state students who were denied admission or who didn’t get CS makes us realize that it was even more of a long shot for him as an OOS student than we even thought. Congrats to those admitted. Moving on to other good fits

OOS denied McCombs (given the stats I’ve seen of those accepted, I totally understand) BUT waitlisted for ā€œTake the World By the Hornsā€ program that has students gain experience overseas -Denmark, Korea or Panama for first semester…and take classes for gen credit.
IF accepted for the ā€œHornsā€ program he’s admitted to the Liberal Arts college…
searched this thread, anyone else applied?

my son’s honors now reflect ā€œdeferredā€ plan 2 and engineering. My understanding (from Kevin’s blog) is that consideration for engineering honors programs aren’t evaluated until after admitted to engineering and decisions aren’t released until closer to march 1.

Engineering honors deferred here too. :pensive:

ECE and CS are two of the most competitive majors at UT. People with 1550+ SAT scores and great ECs have gotten denied. i know you were autoadmit but how was your course rigor? You need to prove you can handle the curriculum.

Anyway I think not having test scores did make it a little harder but even with good test scores it’s just so competitive now…more qualified applicants than they can admit.

You can always try to appeal though. sometimes persistence pays off.

Good to know! Thank you! He got Chem E back in December so we were hoping to get honors decision today. More waiting…

OOS denied McCombs. He was accepted into the Take the World by the Horns program.

OOS here, portal astrology didn’t work, still see BAD 1000 DATA and on MyUT the owed balance is nothing, but got in for Take the World by the Horns program.

What is your major? Congratulations!

Engineering honors deferred. Sounds like it’s just not ready yet.
