Are you instate or out of state?
Son Rejected, In-state for Math major (Applied Math), rank just outside 10%, competitive school, SAT-1530, Strong AMC/AIME math profile and tons of extracurriculars related to major, Good essay (we thought)⦠Should we appeal?
Admits so far: Purdue(Honors), A&M, UMD, UWisc, Ohio State, UTD
In state. Highly competitive high school. Outside the top 6% rank but 1480 SAT and strong ECs. Weāve been told repeatedly from prior parents at our HS that class rank is the key with UT, at least at our school.
You could appeal, I mean no harm no foul, but also for non-auto admits the acceptance rate is 8% OOS and 10% in-state. Itās extremely competitive so I wouldnāt expect a change, but it looks like your son already has a ton of great options!
I wouldnāt read anything into it other than they havenāt decided yet. I kinda remember a couple of years ago a friend applied for dance and she heard in March. They have auditions and portfolios and it just takes longer. Good luck!
Sorry to hear about it. hope you will get into a good school with a free ride. All the best!
jb21, curious - you said top 3% and you are in state, you were not auto admit? Or you got accepted into UT, but not to McCombs? What was your second choice?
Does anyone know the best thread or FB page for CAP students?
Thereās no CC thread for CAPed students yet, but you could potentially make one.
Are all in state students offered CAP that do not get admitted?
If you make one please add meā¦
Our son accepted Moody RTF, Moody Honors, Plan ll last night. In state at non-ranking HS, so no auto admits. 4.0 1560 lots of ECs focus on creative arts, comp sci, latin, & leadership. Tips for future applicants reading this, the essays and resumes are really important! Be real, donāt write what you think they want to hear. Stats get you a lottery ticket. There is a reason UT asks for so many supplements to the Common App.
Accepted to Mccombs last night In state top 6% 26/637 1310 sat 27 act good leadership in business/finance clubs and accounting internship last summer.
Cap is for in-state students who are not 6%, but still considered good enough to transfer in after going to another UT branch for a year.
I agree with this as the parent of a child who is OOS and was just admitted. Admissions folks read THOUSANDS of essays every year. They can totally spot an essay that has been fluffed up by parents or āhelpers.ā A dear college friend is an VP of Admissions for a major university and he hammered home this message when he briefed my Girl Scout troop during a Zoom meeting. Colleges want smart kids but they also want them to be āreal.ā
100% agree!
For in-state students with great backgrounds who did not get into their chosen majors, donāt take it personally. My valedictorian, 99% SAT kid did not get into any of his chosen majors at UT a few years ago. Of course, he did not go to UT, but he never got any explanation as to why he was rejected. I think they get so many applicants, they may have to draw names from a hat.
Does the letter specifically say Plan 2 or is that found somewhere else in the porrtal? thnx!
The honors tab in the portal shows your status. My sonās changed around 12:30am today. I woke up to the news this morning.
We do not have a letter in the portal.
