UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

:pensive: It sucks!

Congrats! How were they notified of interview - email or a phone call?

All kids in our high school waiting for engineering honors got rejected today including my son. All very high achieving kids. It does feel like a gut shot.

Congratulations! How were you notified of interview for CBHP - was it an email or a phone call?

Curious how your DD learned about business honors interview - did UT email her or call her to arrange?

RE: UT Engineering Honors and numerous rejections being reported right now… (I’ve read about one acceptance. One.) It’s an honors program. I can understand not giving everybody in an honors program a scholarship…but to outright reject them from membership, person after person? That makes no sense. What is it Engineering Honors is looking for? One of the ā€œrejectsā€ is a 36 (x4) kid with all the fixings. My kid has a 35 (sorry he isn’t ā€œperfectā€ ???). What is the point of an Honors program that you can’t get in? I’m pretty flabbergasted and frankly insulted for all of our hard working kids. Again…I didn’t expect a guaranteed scholarship…but I did expect he would get in to the program. The kicker will be if he applies and gets in next year…at the point where they do not qualify for scholarships. Sigh.

Consider Jester East or Jester West.

Surely some applicants were offered, right?

I have the same thoughts here. My son has 1570 SAT (with perfect math score), top grades and rigor and published research. I’m not sure who they are selecting for engineering honors this year? I wonder if they are trying to do something new with the program and selecting much less students that they normally did? I wish the University was more transparent with things. I can’t think what else we could’ve done in order to get in to honors.

So far I’ve read of one. The point is that this is an Honors program. The types of kids who are accepted to engineering are typically high stats kids. Honors programs typically have minimum criteria. Is that a 36 ACT or 1600 SAT? That’s a little too tight, if so.

I feel the same. Published kid, has an Electrical Engineering internship, for goodness’ sake. Is a competitive accomplished fencer, volunteer coding mentor and is a certified fencing referee…VP Science Olympiad…on and on. Even All-Texas Academic Team (one of two people nominated Austin Community College wide). Honors at UT must mean something else we are unaware of.

The one kid who got in, did they say their stats? I would be curious.

My Honors tab disappeared after I got my acceptance. Does that mean I’ve been rejected from the honors programs I applied to?

Did (m)any of the kids denied Engineering honors getting into MIT early action? I know someone who got aero honors at GaTech and Notre Dame but deferred to MIT.

It’s nuts to even get admitted to UT Cockrell.

My 36 ACT son didn’t get engineering honors. It’s basically just a merit scholarship not a special program.

Have asked. Awaiting.

It’s by email.

I have a theory but it might be just wishful thinking. I’ve only heard of an extreme select few people get in, all of whom seem to be ECE majors. ECE has it’s own specific honors programs: ECE Honors and ECE + Business Honors, both of which are different from Engineering Honors Program (at least that’s what the honors website implies). My hope is that MyStatus isn’t reflecting EHP and instead they mail invitations out physically like the website says. Otherwise, holy cow they were brutal. As a December BME admit I thought I would have a good shot.
