UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

Hi I am OOS CBHP admit (still shocked I got in considering the OOS odds for it), is the honors program known to give good merit scholarships? I know merit offers come out by March 15th but I haven’t heard of anyone in the past getting merit aid for CBHP and was wondering?

A small percentage of business honors admits will be offered merit. In years past, they were generally in the first round of students offered admissions, so would already know.

Unfortunate, I applied priority and received acceptance to McCombs and CBHP on Feb 1st, so I was just hoping for a little as an OOS student. Either way the housing loophole will save a lot of money.

SRD is a mix of girls who are rushing and those who are involved in other organizations. So I would not worry about being in a sorority-centric dorm.

Was in consideration for the Terry Scholarship, but didn’t advance past the Semi-Finalist stage, doh. UT is still affordable for me though so that’s still good.

What is the housing loophole?

I believe it might be a reference to establishing Texas Residency through owning property. Therefore, your student will quality for in-state tuition after 1 year? You’ll have to talk to a real estate agent for more details on the exact process.

I am in state and aware that people can establish residency. I just didn’t know what the reference was to “housing loophole” since I couldn’t find it in threads above and thought it could pertain to dorm housing at UT. Thanks a bunch!

Has anyone had experience with the Jefferson Scholars Program? My son got an email inviting him to apply. Not sure if this email goes to everyone. My son is an engineering major, but this program looks to be more aligned to literature/the classics.

my DS received one too…he is in Plan II so not sure if he will want another heavy reading type program which it appears to be. I would love any information as well!

It takes three years.

I saw that my son, ECE major, also got the email! Hadn’t heard of it before… not sure how it would meld with the heavy engineering, but at first glance it seems to meet other criteria like flags, maybe?

I don’t know all the facts, but I believe it takes as litlle as 1 year. This is from a real estate website that specializes in helping OOS families establish Texas residency for tuition purposes.

After owning the property for a minimum of twelve months, your family will submit the appropriate paperwork to the University of Texas Registrar’s Office. Once approved, you will then enjoy the benefits of in-state tuition for the remainder of your student’s time at UT. After graduation, the Gill | Cave Group can help you lease out the property to other UT students to create an ongoing passive income, or you can choose to sell the property.

In addendum to the others, here is the exact code that UT and other Texas public institutions utilize to determine residency: Texas Administrative Code
