Merit and honors are not the same group. So it should not affect anything.
Appeal will need to provide new information. Without new information for admission to consider appeal will immediately fail.
Current UT students are texting and calling accepted students. My daughter received a call and her friend received a text. I am assuming its because my daughter has not enrolled in UT yet.
I thought the point of engineering honors at UT is to distribute merit scholarships. There is really no other benefit of the program (other than living in honors dorms). So, I assumed since my son was not selected for honors, he is not getting any merit from engineering. Is my understanding incorrect?
Are housing contracts going out tomorrow? Can anyone provide info on the process
Only first year, and basically because no one can really determine students’ academic (merit) capability until after first year, and with so many top students admitted, the first year honor is more or less a little “need” base.
Second year onward, anyone at top 10% GPA can apply. Some first year honor may drop off because keep top 10% (more or less likely 4.0 for Freshmen and Sophomore) is not going to be easy in Junior and Senior years.
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Yes - can someone explain what to do if DC has not yet decided on UT but doesn’t want to lose the chance at housing?
Adding onto what FriscoDad has said, UT themselves say it is “highly unlikely that the University would reverse its original admission decision.” You can find more information here: Appeals - University of Texas Admissions, but again if you have nothing new to add to your applicant profile, the appeal wont get anywhere.
You are an amazing researcher!! I hope that’s in your future plans somehow!
Thank you!
you are correct.
Do the honor dorms have better facilities than regular dorms.
I logged in to my daughter’s MyUT page to check on things and noticed on her profile it says:
EID Class (What is this?)
AFF
Affiliations:
prospective-student, student-future, donor-friend-vip.
Does anyone know why it would have that last part on there or does anyone else have it? We are not donors, etc.
Where did you find the Q and A virtual event? (Arggghhhh! I feel like we keep missing things! It’s freaking me out.)
Yippee! PMd you.
Where and when will a student learn if they have been offered merit??
I would like to know this myself
So far, I heard that the official offers will be released in April this year.
Yes…wouldn’t we all like to know???

My son received many emails with invitations to various virtual and in-person events for admitted students from UT admissions and engineering college. He registered on some and some did not require registration. Does your son receive any? If not, let him email nss@austin.utexas.edu. This is New Student Services email. I did not receive your PM so far.
Hi, yeah, I’m still a bit unsure/worried. Our daughter is also waiting to hear back from March decisions before accepting enrollment at UT and submitting a housing contract and $300. My understanding has been that so long as we secured a spot with the initial housing application and $50 deposit early on (we did Oct. 6th), then we should be okay with our spot in line to select a room/dorm. But then I still get worried that’s not totally true?? That we should just go ahead and accept enrollment, submit the contract and $300–just to be safe…and because I’m still unsure/confused, lol. I just don’t want to do that, and then we find out in late March that she got into X college and wants to go there! ![]()
