UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

My auto admit D24 with a 1400 SAT got denied first choice McCombs and was admitted to second choice Moody instead. She had great ECs, great essays, solid volunteering and has had part time jobs since freshman year. Her friend with lower class rank and a 1350 SAT score got accepted to McCombs. Talking to her parents, it seems she put a lot of effort into her expanded resume which really showcased her interest in business. My daughter did not do that as I don’t think she really understood what that expanded resume was for. She submitted her art portfolio. :joy: So I think you’ve got a shot but take to heart when UT talks about fit to major. They mean it!

Maybe have her try taking the ACT? I only took the SAT once, but my ACT scores were significantly higher on the first round without studying than my SAT scores. The ACT was definitely my test and I didn’t have to stress over the SAT after that.

Is anyone getting the You Belong Here invitation to UT for April 6th?

We did not

Same here. I heard about it on Facebook. Still feeling sorry for myself because my kiddo hasn’t heard a word about special events. On the upside, he DID get accepted to Rice Engineering!!! That was a HUGE surprise since I thought it was impossible…

We were sent an email for an April 4th ‘UT28 Road Trip’ in person event. Sounds like basically an admitted student tour.
We are not attending as we did an admitted student tour in mid-February.

Can she take the ACT?

Congrats! Is he now considering attending Rice instead?

Thank you…it’s an unexpected turn of events, for sure! I believe he will research it further, but his heart has always been set on UT. I had suggested that he apply several places with unique features because from application time to Decision Day is a really long time at this developmental stage. If UT had not selected him, he would definitely be considering Rice and Rose Hulman more closely.

Interesting. Was your admitted student tour much to write home about? We did a prospective student tour in the fall, which was good for seeing a room in Jester, but not too in-depth otherwise. Lots of talking but not going anywhere other than into Jester. We are signed up for Admitted Student Tour tomorrow, but he wrote to see if it is different than what we already did, and they said it is the same thing. So, we are gonna scratch the tour and go on a private investigation ourselves before a meeting at UT tomorrow about the ECE Master’s program.

We never did a prospective student tour at UT so only did the admitted one so I can’t compare directly. But to compare from the other college prospective student tours, I’d say it was exactly the same, except for the first 30 minutes where you’re sitting in a room getting information. The information was geared toward ‘next steps’ for admitted students. Enrollment deadlines and fees, housing contracts, orientation, etc. Otherwise, the tour was just a regular campus tour and we saw Jester also as an example dorm.

Did appeals come out last night??

I was wondering the same thing. I heard about 2 admitted off of appeals, but was wondering if there was a big wave or just a few.

We have no update on our appeal. Maybe that’s a bad sign.

Guys I have the enrollment deposit!!?

Ah. No luck for us. Congrats to you.

We are still waiting. A friend of my daughter’s got accepted yesterday though.

Did the appeal come through?
