UT Austin Class of 2028 Official Thread

All 4 kids accepted at our HS last year (OOS) were accepted on Jan 30th.

U Georgia Athens ran the smoothest and most drama free admission process I’ve seen this year.
A pre announced date for instate applicants in NOV and one for OOS in DEC… the decisions were loaded to everyone’s portal at the same time … 3PM EST?.. and bam, it was done… no portal astrology or amateur computer hacking needed… Mr. Graves maintained a blog with FAQs and answered a lot of one off q’s… model program in my opinion…

Instate and I’m unsure of major

I heard someone explained this as an ā€œenrollment managementā€. The college release a batch of admissions and sees how many of these students actually enroll. If accepted student gets accepted to another college where they have a binding agreement (Early Decision colleges), the student must withdraw their acceptances elsewhere. So, UT releases some decisions and waits to see who possibly enrolls or who would withdraw, then they recalibrate their enrollment management modules and proceed with another batch. This does make sense from college’s perspective.

That is what I thought was happening when UT released a small wave in December when binding EDs were out. Few outstanding kids like the valedictorian etc from our school were offered their major during that wave. They would have to withdraw their applications since they had offered But that they would have to do anyways if they EDed.

This is probably the most reasonable response that I’ve read. My DD ED’ed at another school, was deferred and now UT Austin is her top choice. Makes sense.

Question for anyone who is knowledgeable…

Stats:
OOS
Strong GPA, with 13 APs (passing all with 4s or 5s) and 9 DC courses
Top 2% of a 500+ student class
Strong resume (with national recognition ā€œhooksā€)

But (in a very unfortunate oversight), I realized I did not officially send test scores despite having an SAT above average. It was self-reported, although that seemingly will not make a difference.

Do I still have a shot?

Thank you for your insight/advice in advance.

What school and major did you apply to? What is your GPA and how many B’s, C’s, etc…?

Business or Political Comms

All As, 4.0 GPA UW and 5.35/6 GPA weighted

You have a strong shot

Grades look great with your APs. IMO, McCombs is still considered a reach. Moody will be easier. It may come down to the ā€œstoryā€ your application tells and your leadership/involvement.

Did anyone or anyone you know in the pass apply youth and community studies

Has anyone concluded whether or not being able to see MYClasses, My40acres, etc means anything?

There is nothing there.

likely nothing.

Does anyone know the easiest major

Easiest in what way?

My daughter did too. Any idea how this scholarship works? She is auto admit but major decision is still in review. She is also still not sure if she will accept UT if she gets in. Does going through the interview of the Forty Acres mandate acceptance and going to UT?

No, it does not. I know someone who received the 40 acres and went to Harvard.
