UT Austin Class of 2029 Official Thread

I am reading it as ineligible because since we’re not technically “admitted” you cannot be eligible to be accepted into honors. On another college’s board on this website it mentioned this. I can’t remember the college thread but that college basically told the person you will be considered for honors once accepted into the main university. At least I hope Texas is the same way and ineligible just means “not currently since we aren’t admitted yet”. Need to get into the college first so to speak.

Did your child get deferred? And if so do you have ineligble in your honors tab?

Deferred and it does say ineligible.

Is there anyone here who got deferred but does NOT have ineligbile in thier honors tab?

My kid applied Business #1 and Engineering #2. She applied for Honors for both. Now both say INELIGIBLE. This has her thinking she’s been denied her top two majors. I don’t necessarily believe that, but it certainly doesn’t look good.

I saw on Reddit where an auto admit also has ineligible so at least it shouldn’t mean anything regarding acceptance. Another pointed out you had to apply for honors by EA and now that they’re rolled into RD they could be considered ineligible.

If UT Austin didn’t put any amounts, totals or percentages in writing, then you are just projecting your wants & desires when, in reality, the university did exactly what they said they would do.

DD didn’t apply for honors so that bit of portal forecasting doesn’t work for us.
She was expecting a rejection so she’s taking it less hard than the Georgia deferral. However, unlike Georgia, it is frustrating that we can’t submit updated test scores and Fall grades. Both would be beneficial to her application. It’s just more waiting.

I understand what you are saying, hopefully it is a mistake of some sort. But 48 hours ago they were still not technically “admitted” but still eligible for honors. Something must have changed.

oddly enough, they think no negative decision yesterday is some kind of achievement, how so? Did they mark some non admissible nut just would not say it out or are they really going to start another sift with all students left in the pool?

Yeah good point.

I think making the statement of a “guaranteed decision by January 15” is pretty self-explanatory.

it has been said by AO many times that second major will not be considered at all.

so we did see a letter from UT, 5000 admissions out of 23k or 27k reads ( 25 to 30% from the letter).

I would rather stop speculating, not worth the effort, simply wait it out and put your eyes somewhere else.

without a major lock-in, auto has no advantages over non-auto at all.

My daughter’s honors programs also changed to ineligible

ineligible could mean:

  1. rejected

or

  1. still waiting for admission

But if it was there before, maybe leaning towards rejection.

Something worth a clarification from earlier admitted UT students.

I keep thinking someone is ineligible if they are not being admitted for the major the honors is for. If not it would say rejected I would think.

Someone on reddit claims to have called the admissions office and was told “ineligible” status is an error

You will make yourself crazy trying to decipher system changes in a portal prior to decisions being released. Trying to infer what an honors status change or a blue dot in the corner or a payment portal being opened and closed…it will make you nuts and 99 percent of the time, this sort of sleuthing is wrong or gives answers that don’t apply to everyone.

I know it stinks to wait more. I’m waiting with my kid too. But, we will survive and so will they. Take a deep breath and when you get the email to check the portal go ahead. It will save you a ton of anxiety.

Best of luck to everyone.
