I liked this episode, more so than last week. It had a beautiful “otherworldliness” about it…dare I say a kind of Biblical quality to the story telling. They desperately need water and water (rain) comes. They are starving and suddenly there is meat. They are under assault by zombies and an amazing storm comes to their rescue. It may have been a little corny how each person came to their senses and ran to the barn door to prop it up, but I enjoyed that scene. Nobody curled up in a corner ready to die. They had to pitch in together to live.
I would have let Eugene drink the gift water…it was his decision to make whether he wanted to take that risk for the group.
Dead frogs I think indicate that the stream they were in dried up. We have to see them coming to the end of their collective ropes on the road to understand why they would agree to go along to another new “sanctuary” because even thought they are wary about it …they really have no other choice.
Aaron in the comics is the person who persuades them to come to the Alexandria Free Zone, a walled community of survivors that may or may not turn out to be as promised…he signals the start of a new arc for the story thank goodness. There’s only so much you can do with eating worms.
The dead frogs image was interesting - brings to mind a biblical-type plague. I do hope there is a new story arc ahead very soon, the pace of these past 2 episodes has been plodding.
Good episode. For all Rick’s caution, though, I think he left unanswered a pretty crucial question before they all piled into the cars to go. Not everyone is invited to stay. And as Aaron says, it’s not his call. A little more grilling was in order about whose call it is and how it’s decided and what happens to the people who aren’t chosen to stay.
There should be more people watching them come in …if Rick and Michonne hear children’s voices then why don’t we see people and kids outside? You’d think that in such a community, the arrival of scouts bringing newcomers would be a big deal and there would be more than just a single guy to greet them. It would make me pretty suspicious of the whole set up.
Thank goodness for Darryl. He’s standing guard. Loved it when he told Carol she looked ridiculous. Don’t know if that getup is part of an act, trying to be Suzy Homemaker. Interested in how Laurie feels about this new place, and the Abraham group. Haven’t heard any reactions from them yet. Too much like Woodbury for my tastes. I’ve got my suspicions about the new place, but won’t share as my husband and son read the comics, so I don’t want to get spoiled by their reactions. First time I had nightmares about the show last night, not because of zombies, but the thought of people just acting nonchalantly in a gorgeous neighborhood with the horror outside the walls. As some of the cast said, easy to become weak with all these luxuries. Interesting story line and can’t wait for Sunday every week now.
I think it’s pretty evident that Carol’s act is just that - an act. Did you hear her interview with Deanna, the leader of Alexandria? “Oh, I miss my dear departed husband every day.” Uh, no - you hate him. I think Carol is standing guard in her own way - she’s using the Junior-League attitude and her clothing as camouflage while she tries to find out what’s really going on. I think it’s great!
I’m not sure what’s going on in Alexandria either, but I wonder: what would happen if it’s the real deal, a place where Rick’s group could be safe and happy. Could Rick handle that? Or has his time in the outside world with the zombies changed him in a way that he could never really relax and settle down?
I for one am kind of tired of all the “bad places” - Woodbury and Terminus. IF the show becomes just one bad-place-after-another, I’m not sure it can keep up the dramatic tension…
Is Rick a hottie or what?
Liked this episode a lot....sets up many future story lines for conflict/drama: Jessie-husband-Rick, Carl-Enid, Daryl and everybody, Aidan and anyone from Rick's group.
One quibble...Rick should have followed up with a question to Deanna about the men she "exiled." He's got to realize they're a potential threat and there's actually a good chance that they survived since Northern Virginia was evacuated....she even said that there weren't many people around, dead or alive, so kicking them out would not necessarily be a death sentence. I foresee Rick taking over at least as head of security and trying to get the rest of the community to learn how to defend themselves.
Good move by Carol, she’s made herself invisible and nonthreatening while the townies are watching Daryl, Rick, and Glenn. Hiding in plain site.
This setup seems very Woodbury to me, with the head woman’s sons being the main problem. Glenn pissed them off I am thinking there will be a target on his back.
I kept murmuring “Shave shave shave please Rick shave.” Imagine my delight. Whew.
Loved Daryl gutting the possum on the pristine front porch of the Coastal Living house (that’s what they remind me of–shiny houses in that shiny magazine).
Loved this episode. I was SO happy he shaved, also…and equally glad that Deanna made mention of it! I’ve been missing that handsome face! He is SO good looking. Just loved Carol’s taping and her lies and Darryl telling her she looked ridiculous. After seeing them all so bad-ass dressed, they all do look odd in regular clothing. i was so happy for them to be able to take showers, though.
I still can’t tell if this town is for real, but I think it is…maybe. I’m really hesitant like they are. The town seemed so sparse compared to Woodbury, I kept wondering where all the people were.
You would think that after they caught that instrument the guy was listening in on them with, they wouldn’t speak so loudly, but rather whisper to each other.
Good episode, has my interest again and can’t wait for next week. I’m really hoping that Deanna is a “good guy”, I’m sort of tired of them running into horrible people all of the time.
Good point about the listening devices. I want them to stay wary too.
I think Deanna is a good guy…I expect the threat to come from the outside, from the exiles teamed with some other group and maybe with Aidan also acting as a weak link that let’s the outsiders get in. I’d love to see Rick keeping his group focused. They should all know what Rick knows…about the men that were exiled and Carl should be telling Rick about watching Enid slip out the gates with no trouble at all.
Maybe in the next episode, Rick and Deanna have a no-holds barred talk. About the exiles, about Enid leaving (was she related to one of the exiles?), about how stupid Aidan is around the walkers. If future shows have Alexandria under attack, fine, as long as it’s not because Rick didn’t see it coming and put up the best defenses he could.
